it's because people have dead links to offsite avatars. yes, I already talked one guy into fixing his and *voila!* it was like magic.

I'm not going to PM everyone that has this issue so please check your own avatars--if they say "failed to load", please go in and fix yours (or delete it) so we all don't to feel the effects--and you will surely appreciate others doing it for you. and if not, do it for me, OK? :wink:

That's actually a really cool fact-revealing. I, too, have often wondered why certain threads are painfully slow. I always figured there was something behind this, as it wasn't a one-time occurrence with the thread and would always load slow, and at odds with the rest of the board.

The other thing is that some people have really big avatars. The webpage ends up resizing them, but everybody still has to download this huge file before that can happen.
