FS: Otari MX5050 8-trk

Post by jca83 » Sun Jan 30, 2005 4:22 pm

8 tracks of analog goodness... great machine cosmetically. haven't used it since i bought it a few months ago, just never got around to using it. from the previous seller, i know it's never been recorded on and was purely used for playback. in good shape, just needs a little rubber cleaning. comes with autolocator-remote thingy and a bunch of accessories, including plastic guard and the stand w/ wheels. a great piece of equipment, assuming you still have tape.

i'm taking offers.. i don't really know the value. thanks guys!

to clarify:

it's a half-inch 8-track.

it hasn't been aligned since i've bought it, and i honestly don't know the last time it has been aligned. but i've powered it up and tested a few things and it seems to be in good shape. the heads look decent; the erase head is a bit funky, but could probably just use a thorough cleaning. i'll ship it, but.. i don't think it's a good idea. i can take pictures if desired.

thanks for the interest!

well put pictures up here...put a link on the general forum to it. there are tons of 5050 owners here...and they aren't being manufactured peeps...

the most you could get i'd think would be 4 hundred bucks for the thing. i bet you could make more parting it out.

i cuold use some cards...and some knobs...i don't wanna buy a whole parts deck and havnig it sitting there.

i dunno ... if this isn't wise...some elder let me know...but it would make sense to me.

No No,

Don't part it out. This machine sounds pretty alright. It could have a future.

If you want parts, I still have a bunch of parts from an MX5050 1/2" 4 track that UPS & bad packaging destroyed.

Somebody buy that deck. C'mon.

Okay I just read the description again. Why would you part that deck out? That would just be such a shame.

I mean, it doesn't even have fuzzy tube preamps. . . .

hey mang - your stuff won't work in the 8 track...

I'm not suggesting bastardizing the thing...i'm suggesting using it for parts to keep other machines going...but you know...do what ya will...

"This machine sounds pretty alright."

i personally think the thing smokes...if i didn't have one i'd buy this one...i paid 1700 for mine...and still don't regret it...i wish i could say the same for most depreciatable gear!

If the tape machine works... don't part out the machine parts. It sounds like it's in great shape, and I'm sure somebody will buy it. You could always sell some of the accessories. I'm sure somebody would pay good money for the autolocator.

I would be interested in the stand, but I'm sure it's pretty damn big and hard to ship. Unless it comes apart and would easily fit in a box?

If I could sell my msr-16, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Wanna trade? I'll meet you somewhere between CA and TN. -AE

Ooops, I didn't mean in any way that the MX 5050's didn't sound awesome.
I was referring to the sound of the description.

I am assuming that people aren't interested right now because of tape scarcity. I was having to compete with people to get a 5050 just four months ago.

I love love mine. Don't part it out. Wait for a few months until tape manufacturing is secure.

Why not ebay it?
