WANTED: Yamaha PM-1000

Post by bjoihawk » Wed Feb 02, 2005 3:27 pm

I'm looking for a fully functional Yamaha PM-1000 that I can mod into a workable recording desk.

I do not plan on parting it out for profit on ebay.

Thanks much

Yeah, wow, $2500. It's worth that for sure, but you can get them for $400 or less. I got mine for around $350 shipped I think.

It's odd, their console says shipping weight is 50 pounds. These things weigh over 200. I have one, it's a back breaker. Not something you can move on your own.

here's a quote from fletcher on rec.audio.pro regarding the $2500 price tag...

...everything that is owned by the company has to be made available for purchase. It's part of the company charter which was made years ago. Now,
I'm not the most affluent of people, so there are actually some things that the company has purchased over the years that I don't want sold...because I use them all the time.

The Yamaha PM-1000 which you seem to feel is worth $350 is a classic example of this. See, I don't really ever want it sold. It's a well designed 16 input 4 bus, 4 send desk that just happens to have transformers in the mic pre's. It's Class 'A' / discrete, and sounds fucking lovely. Size, depth, detail...like a real desk should.

the problem is that i think everybody is starting to realize that they can part these things out for way more thank they can sell the console as a whole. which, ironically is driving up the price of the consoles. the last two on ebay went for 580 and 750 respectively.

Fletcher mentioned the other day that there was someone who works in his shop that was selling their Yammie (not the one Fletcher owns). You could go over to Fletchers forum and PM him or send him an email over at Mercenary.
