1.5 minute folk song. I'm sure you can spare the time.

Post by dynomike » Thu Aug 19, 2004 12:10 pm

I just moved to an apartment which basically means most of my recordings from now until christmas won't have drums.. :(

So, heres the first of the acoustic set:

Mike Kuehn - My Timing's not the Best
Its a little song I've been working on for a while and boiled down to:

acoustic guitar mic'd with an apex 420 ldc (doubled hard left and right)

p-bass DI, slightly compressed.

vocals, doubled in the chorus. Same crappy ldc... but this time with some drive from plugins.

acoustic lead - di. Expander followed by a compressor to get a little more sustain.

shaker - compressed like nuts. good old blockfish.

Its 1:35 in length.. I haven't put it up on my website yet but I'll give you guys the first listen.. tell me if I need to make some mix adjustments, I just moved, so I'm not used to the room yet.

Thanks for listening

Mike

liked it.
the transition into, and the part that starts, "but when I finally..." is cool.

I'm not into the lead guitar tone, but the playing was good.

cool.

I uploaded a new version with reverb. I don't know if its better.

I also took out the shaker at the end because throwing in an extra element right at the end is a bad idea.

The reverb smooths out the lead guitar a little. But hey, its DI, who likes a di acoustic tone? I just wanted it to stand out from the other tracks a little and I have a lot of noise here so I couldn't crank up the mic'd track of the lead guitar.

I'm really happy with the bass sound though.. first recording with my new bass and man I dont' have to eq it! And i'm only taking away like 3 db MAX with the comressor.. its great.

Nice tune! Great playing.

At first listen I thought your vocals needed to come up in the mix, but later it all seems to work well. I like the acoutic guitar, nice image. p-bass rocks.

Top notch stuff happening here!

That's a nice, sweet little song. The vocals seemed a little low, maybe. The solo noodling at the end seemed a little extraneous.

Good vocals, good vocal melody and lyrics that don't try too hard.

i kinda agree with that.

the vocals definitely get drowned out by the guitar at times. but i like the song. and your voice sounds cool.
