Feedback wanted -- Austin hard rock band

Post by jimmyjazz » Mon Aug 30, 2004 10:38 am

Hey y'all . . . I just finished producing & engineering an album for a new Austin band and thought I'd get some feedback (good or bad) on the tracks. The CD is the first release for a new label I co-founded called Four/Four Records. If you'll follow this link you should be able to find mp3s for tracks #2 and #5:

http://fourfourrecords.com/backlit.html

The first track on the CD is getting some semi-regular play on the local rock station (KLBJ-FM) so I guess that's a good thing. Now we just need to sell a bunch of records!

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated . . . I'm getting ready to mix the next artist's CD soon and would like to avoid any mistakes I made on the first release.

<editing the title since every third message on this board seems to have "Austin" in the subject line>

alissa, check out the band photo. The similarity between the guitarist and Charlie Sexton is freaky. (Ironically, we used one of Charlie's guitars on the record. He left it in the studio several years ago when he was spending a lot of time on the road with Bob Dylan.)

Thanks for the kind words . . .

Checked it out bro...very clear production with a lot of presence. I know a lot of folks here in Austin that would dig this for sure...namely Gerry from the Bulemics and Natchet Taylor. Keep it up man.

Thanks, David. For the life of me I can't figure out why the mp3 seems to exaggerate certain 'verbs, etc. I can sort of understand the bass getting messed up, but the reverb on the intro of "Chemical Imbalance" sounds nothing on the mp3 like it does on the CD. Oh well.

The band is being "mentored" (for lack of a better word) by a couple of local legends; namely, Jason McMaster and Chris Gates. They are really serious about making it. I don't know how much longer the window will be open for their brand of rock, but I'm for damn sure gonna try to get them as much exposure as I can.

Awesome! I'll tell Charlie that his mom has made it onto tapeop.

By the way, alissa, you might have crossed paths with a friend of mine who now lives in Minneapolis. Ever heard of Dan Israel & the Cultivators? He's a very talented songwriter. I'd describe their sound as "energetic alt-country".

Thanks for buying the CD, alissa, and THANK YOU for the heads-up on the shipping. I had no f'n idea they were charging that much.

In theory, it's a Texas distributor. They were based out of Texas forever. Ultimately, they moved to Washington, but that shouldn't affect the shipping that much.

It is time for a "come to Jesus" talk between me & the distro folks. I'll hand-address and send 'em out myself for $1.25 if I have to.

PM me with your address & I'll send you a t-shirt. Sorry about the gouge on the shipping.
