it's my first time, so go easy on me
Looking for feedback on what I finished up last night:
http://www.rain-fresh.com/comrade/noneed3small.mp3
I always feel like my main weekness is with the EQ.
Thanks

maybe a tad too much verb / delay on your vox - it's actually working against the "whisper in your ear" feeling i think you are going for. the keys are nice. same goes for the bg vox and the slide. you want them to sound distant, but not cavernous.
listen to some of will oldham's stuff or little wings (k records) - the way they EQ the guitar and place the mics is really great for this intimate kind of stuff. if you are using one mic on the guitar, copy the guitar to another channel.
eq the new channel so it's almost all highs (lots of strum noise) and pan it to the left or right a fair amount (50+). see what you think; it can makesomething sound real close up and give your guitar the intimate feeling your vocals have.

nah. i dont mid the excessive reverb so much.
i would however, cut out some of the lows from the reverb. it gets pretty crazy down there. or at least keep that crazy low buildup from happening so often. like keep it down to one or two parts in the tune.
oh and maybe make the background vocals a little less reverby.
what i hear is a dude singing a little folk song at the edge of a volcano or something like that... maybe the edge of some sort of space/time disturbance. the background vocals seem to come from completely inside the disturbance. i would prefer if they were sort of falling into it halfway. that way you will have another distinct layer to the recording.
and i like the song and all... etc. you have a website? more songs?

Thanks,
I'll put up another mix as soon as I get the chance to make it.
Wry is what I use the testing grounds for songs that become used for our real band Comrade. We're about to start a full length, hence the demo.
We have one live and one old recording at http://www.purevolume.com/comrade
I can put up some more live if you want.

Ok, I made some changes in effects and eq. Also ended up adding a couple instruments. Tell me what you think:
Old mix:

I love it. You must in my opinion find a happy medium (a slightly heavier lean to mix#1) between mix #1 and #2. Too much verb in the first and too dry in the second. For this reason alone (#2 dry) I prefer the first mix. The overall idea is marvelous in my opinion however; reverb should be close in "feeling" across an entire mix.
Hope this helps.

I won't/can't make engineering comments, but I think it's really quite nice. From a song structure pov, I think just one change, something major-ie, would be very cool.
