demo songs self-recorded. we're called the southern sea. we used 1 Rev B iMac, cubase 4.1, some SM 57s, us-428, and unfortunately lots of eq. We're about to record our debut full-length. any comments about what to do/what not to do this time around. thanks.

Re: mellow mid-fi music
I really like these songs.
They seem well recorded, and though you say you needed to do a lot of EQing, I think it all sounds like a good blend. The only oddness was some buzz on "The Unlucky Doberman" in the right side of the stereo image.

I agree. I'm really digging these too. They may not be the highest quality ever, but the recording style fits the music, and the music is good. Nice and melodic. But yeah, I noticed that buzz as well. You might wanna fix that. But thumbs up, regardless.
I am wangtacular.

We don't have a wide variety of mics (or any money), so we just used a SM 57 on the kick. We're looking for a extremely low cost kick drum mic for this next recording? Something that will capture the lows better. Any suggestions?
Also, thanks for all the kind comments everyone. Sounds like we're close to being on the right track for the full length. I did recently get a motu 828, and I also bought one of the $69 Oktava 219...which should give us a better ambient drum sound...bettter sounding cymbals and stuff.
thanks,
brad

Hi, I listened to Magellan. Very nice. Your are getting a great overall sound, and the song is hypnotic and flowing. Great stuff.
