The VS880ex Challenge

Post by Zygomorph » Sat Jan 01, 2005 5:07 pm

As much as I deride the thing, and as much time as I'm spending transfering my old work off of it 2 painful tracks at a time...

I like to go back and challenge myself to remix things on my old Roland 8-track. The challenge is that very few of the effects processors (or any of the EQ, really) in the unit sound particularly good. This means they have to be used as minimally or as tastefully as possible. The surprise comes from revisiting material tracked when I was 16 or 17 with fresh ears and different tastes.

So I offer up here, for your perusal and deconstruction, a song written and performed by my friend's combo, recorded in the eleventh grade when I had one (1) microphone to use for the drums. Luckily he was an excellent drummer!
