a brand new song- "Choices"

Post by gonzo-x » Wed Jan 21, 2004 2:47 pm

"Choices"

I used the A Designs Audio mp-1 mic preamp for all vox, acoustic guitars and (2) miced backgrouind elec. guitar parts...with a dbx compressor as insert, routed through an ART DPS for digital conversion...

Pod XT for the other electric parts... and bass..
all into a roland vs 1880......

this was my very first shot at doing "snapshot Automixing".....
with then roland machines, you can automate the mix.... and i've never really tried to do it before, so this was my trial by fire....

and let me tell you, automix is very cool, UNLESS you've got a tricky mix..which this is....

1st person to spot my automix mistakes (3 blatent ones) wins a brand new Corvette!!

I did manage a couple of good automixed fades........;)

i gotta mix this one over.

...and, i think i was too liberal with the low end eq on mastering.... i only added 1db at 100hz, and 1db at 400hz.....oh yea, and 1db at 14khz...
my bat likes that one... ;)

here's the lyric....

Choices

Standing at the edge of a decision
And a thought has just occurred to me

If I had walked another path
I would have found another destiny

It's so easy to say
If I had another day
To take a different view
If I only knew

That the choices I made
Were the choices I gave

To all the ones in my life
Unnecessary strife

But it will be all right

Ah..... Ah.... Ah.... Ah.....
It's my plan, it's my plan, it's my plan
To find some balance and some kind of peace
Another day, another chance
A different choice that I will see

It's so easy to say
If I had another day
To take a different view
If I only knew

That the choices I made
Were the choices I gave

hey thanks for posting. To tell the truth, it's not a style of music heard much 'round these parts anymore. Maybe people are more comfortable critiquing stuff that is similar to what they do????

I think the parts are good, but when everything gets double tracked, it's hard to know what to focus on.

hm......

it's just a rock tune....

does it have to be in a certain "style" these days, what is the "style" these days....

it certainly wasn't written to fit radio format......

is the tape OP "style" a more mellow thing?
like acoustic....
OR IS IT JAZZ........

or is it metal....

clue me in...... please!

I....really dont know!

THere are a few threads here about best bands of the year, or other stuff, and I haven't even heard of 90% of it. It's like the more underground the better, or something. Which may be true; perhaps, like yourself, those not interested in sacrificing their songs to get on the radio actually end up writing better songs.

I have to say I really dig some of the vocal harmonies on here, and that acoustic guitar or mandolin or whatever it is that has that break in the middle- killer!

reminds me of ozzy, like shot in the dark era

but mixed with king's x

a nauseous combination, even tho it is excellently done :^:

not my favorite style but at least it's listenable! if i may be so bold...

I really liked the vocal styles...the drums sounded tight and clear..the guitar(solo) was a nice change in the song. I like see someone else admitting they use a POD, they don't get much respect round these parts. This reminded me of Rush, prog rock..with a bit of an updated sound.

Hey. I for one am glad that there is a diversity in the music that is made by the people that hang around here.

The recording is pretty true to the genre. Vocals and guitars are pretty OZZY!

I can't here the drums as well as i'd like to in spots.

All in all bravo.

ROCK MOTHER FUCKAS.

lukakis-
thanks for checking it out...
that was just acoustic guitar in the middle... a main line, and a harmony...

tiger vomitt-
LOL
what a moniker......
ozzy, that's funny, you're the 2nd in the thread to mention that, and ozzy's never been an influence, but that's cool..... king's x and ozzy... nauseous indeed!
ha.....

vxmike-
yeah, pod is like the recording world's red headed stepchild.....
but i do like it, for many things, and for me, it's a different sound, after using tube amps for 24 years.....

loudmusic-
another ozzy fan....
i guess some of the stuff he does with Zakk really does kick ass....
it's funny, i do a version of this on acoustic guitar, play it exactly the same way, but it comes off completely different.....
maybe if i put a hip-hop beat to it, it wont come off so ozzy!

LOL

thanks guys......
