The Beat Union - Beat of the Week #002 (2/12-2/19)

Post by wing » Wed Feb 11, 2004 10:51 pm

for details on what this all is, see: http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=9327

Here it is at last, the new beat of the week:
http://www.headexplosion.com/jonathan/a ... BU/002.mp3

note about the beat:
This recorded only with one mic--a 414 as a room mic--and compressed til it hit the roof! the beat is also relatively short, a bit more upbeat, full of mistakes, and has a 'surprise ending'.

hope you enjoy! rock on.

Awesome, wing. Would you mind if I sampled this at some point in time? I make beats for a number of people, and I'm always looking for odd drum sounds that I don't actually have to record myself. There's a section in here I could make a nice/fucked-up loop out of. If not, that's cool, I'll just hate you for the rest of my life and pee on your grave when you die.
I am wangtacular.

Can we get these wingdrum posts stickied?

It'd be cool if we had a sticky that was just a log of the different beats, y'know, and then another sticky with people's recordings.

And wing, I just want to say again what a great idea this was. So cool.

Writing to a beat like this really forces your brain to approach the whole songwriting process in a new way.

and i'd like to give some credit to thegunshyboy, who originally had approached me to give him a beat to write a song to. back then i turned it down, as i prefer writing drum beats to preexisting stuff. though this beat union idea uniquely came to me later as a different concept, i cannot help but feel there is some credit due.

sorry again man!

Hey, Wing:

I sort of jumped the gun a minute ago and messaged Hillary to see if we can get these things stickied somehow. How do you feel about that?

My suggestion was that we have one sticky with your beats and another with people's songs. Bad idea?

I really don't know how I missed this idea. Can I still join starting with the old beat?

Now I just need to think of an excuse to sneak out of work early to go home and write something.

I have a couple unused isolated drum tracks that I recorded for a friend who never bothered to use them. I'd be glad to contribute a track to the cause. I even have em in 24 bit wav multitrack IIRC, and I'm pretty sure they're done with a click. Good drummer.

Let's have 'em, Mr. Go!

Can you dump them to a 2 track mp3?
