I did a gig with an oboe player tonight!

Thank you for your candidness, Rigsby. I'll be candid as well. I nearly married a woman that was a Spice Girls fan. God, she was hot - part Morrocan, part Saudi. mmmm...Oh yeah, anyway...I actually sat through some Spice Girls music for her. Not making love, mind you. I'd kill myself before that happened. Anyway...the shit we do for women.

I'd take the Spice Girls over Huey Lewis any day. Know what I'm saying, Huh?!

I grew up in the same area as "Hugh". He played my highschool dance just as he was getting big nationally.

I was IN "The Power of Love" video and am even visible for 1/20th of a second.

Yes, you may touch the hem of my garment.

New York, New York, is everything they say
And no place that I'd rather be
Where else can you do a half a million things
All at a quarter to three
When they palt their music, ooh that modern music
They like it with a lot of style
But t's still that same old back beat rhythm
That really really drives 'em wild

They say the heart of rock and roll is still beating
And from what I've seen I believe 'em
Now the old boy may be barely breathing
But the heart of rock and roll is still beating

LA, Hollywood, and the Sunset Strip
Is something everyone should see
Neon lights and the pretty pretty girls
All dressed so scantily
When they play their music
That hard rock music
They like it with a lot of flash
But it's still that same old back beat rhythm
That really kicks 'em in the

They say the heart of rock and roll is still beating
And from what I've seen I believe 'em
Now the old boy may be barely breathing
But the heart of rock and roll is still beating

DC, San Antone and the Liberty Town, Boston and Baton Rouge
Tulsa, Austin, Oklahoma City, Seattle, San Francisco, too
Everywhere there's music, real live music, bands with a million styles
But It's still that some old rock and roll music
that really drives 'em wild

They say the heart of rock and roll is still beating
And from what I've seen I believe 'em
Now the old boy may be barely breathing
But the heart of rock and roll is still beating
It's nice to be nice to the nice.

But my best HL story comes from my brother who attended a small thanksgiving party with Hugh and some of his minions.

My brother is a hard-core stoner and while rolling joints offered a drag to HL who ignored him. The minions took my brother aside and got him coked up in the room with HL and then left him alone. An hour later one of the minions approached my brother sitting on the couch and with total seriousness and imperiousness said "Hugh will get stoned now," meaning that my brother should provide a joint.

That's still a little tagline between the two of us: "Hugh will get stoned now."

I've seen Hugh be a real dick to waiters in restaurants. He seemed pretty cool at the video shoot (8 hours I think, until about 5 in the morning). The 25-year-old model in the video wouldn't give me no love, but I was only 17.
It's nice to be nice to the nice.

Just to be clear: I didn't lose my virginity to a souindtrack of colour me bad, she just really liked them. She had quite a few posters of them, but luckily we were at my house that afternoon.

Props to Mario 'bad boy' Cipollina!

That dude always scared the living shit out of me in those videos. Didn't he play like a Dracula-like waiter in one (might be "I want a new drug") or something?

And the courts ruled that he WAS the orginator of the "Ghostbusters" bass line.

Yeah, i was reading about this a few days ago and someone played me the two (i'm foggy, maybe this was on a TV show can't recall) - yeah, very similar and i think a fair cop. Why that Ray Parker Jnr...

I do prefer Ghostbusters though to be honest.

The coolest thing about Huey Lewis/News is that Tower of Power's horn section backed the band. Just my opinion, of course.

Surely the coolest thing about Huey Lewis and the News is that they broke up.

Least i hope they did. Either way we don't seem to hear them much these days, so i'd still be happy with that.

I meant the "only cool thing" about HL was the horn section.

Aren't they opening for Ashlee Simpson on her next world tour, btw? Hehe...I jest.

Actually, there's no comparison between the two. If there is please enlighten me. I could actually imagine sitting through a Huey Lewis album and finding things I think they did well. I can't say the same for Ashlee, other than she has a nice derriere.

They did dull extremely well. No, that's unfair, the power of love is a groovy little part of my childhood, even if it's only because of back to the future. I like Bateman's critique of Huey et al in American Psycho, that's pretty funny, especially his thoughts on 'hip to be square'.

I can't remember it word for word. His context for music reviews is generally quite odd and humourous, as in the situations he's in, you should check it out, definately worth seeing for that. He also covers genesis and a few others i think.
