What records are you really pleased to own (vinyl, I mean)
Anyone got any really rare stuff? Or, even if not rare, some items that they couldn't part with? I've got a few, but here're some that spring to mind (none of which are at all rare, I hasten to add):-
The Cardigan's 'Life.'
Husker Du - 8 Miles High 7"
Scott Walker - Scott 3
Portishead - Dummy
I've probably got one or two rare thingys, but nothing like the 7" pic sleeve version of all Tomorrow's Parties, or owt. I've got Throbbing Gristle's United, pic cover - bit knackered though.

I'm pleased with all of them, but I suppose...
1) Bo Diddley - I've got 10 or so orig 45's, and 3 orig lp's
2) Everly Bros. - All the 60's warner releases (in mono) and 15-20 45's.
3) Jack Nitzsche - Lonely Surfer lp (mono), worth it entirely for that song itself.
4) About 20 orig Beatles 45's. All the good'uns, like Rain, Baby Your a Rich Man, etc.
5) Ditto Stones, I've got a bunch of 45's and 4 or 5 mono lp's
6) Ike and Tina - 10-15 45's
7) James Brown - 15-20 orig 45's
45's by Barbara Lewis, The Orlons, Baby Washington, The Dixie Cups, Troggs, Little Walter, Jimmy Reed, plus some soundtracks by John Barry, Morricone, Nino Rota, Mancini, Bollywood, etc.. and a bunch of gamelan, japanese folk music, and music from afghanistan, morocco, china, africa, most of it crusty, old, and ornate. Like me!

Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps, which is one album that should only be listened to on vinyl. Also, Don Ho's Christmas album.

If it's not distorted, what's the point??

Forgot about that.. I have about 15-20 45's of them, inc. Waterloo/Two Sisters..a bunch of early kinks..
Re: What records are you really pleased to own (vinyl, I mea
I've got "The Whitey Album" by Ciccone Youth. I thought that was pretty hot shit, but it seems like if you have an Amoeba Records in your town you can pretty much get a copy with no trouble.
I also just remembered that I have a cool old hardcore LP by the band Downcast. This is a sentimental favorite for me b/c every song on the record has an accompanying essay explaining its political significance as a critique of contemporary society . It's the most mild-mannered, thoughtful writing, paired up with the most bone-crushing music. Plus it was on Ebullition Records, so the whole thing only cost $4.99. For me circa 1990, this was the absolute poop. ... and I still think it's cool, although it's not something I throw on the turntable very often.

With my Les paul, I know I'm small.

That "something else" wouldn't be a mono copy, would it? you'll be making me a copy if it is!
Picked up a clean copy of "Steamin' w/Miles" for $7 recently..
Mingus, too. I recently got "Right Now!" for cheap, tho my fav. is probably balck Saint and The Sinner lady..
What do you play your 78's on, alex? been looking to get into 78's.. That califone with the 2 speakers, strobe, mic/line inputs, auxin/outs looks nice, i think it's 1155C or something..

Re: What records are you really pleased to own (vinyl, I mea
yeah, i bought my first copy of paul's boutique when it came out. damn that was a long time ago.
sadly, my copy of "something else" is reprise stereo, so not really all that special, but i just love that album so much. it is really clean, if that counts.
i've never invested the money into a decent 78 turntable, but if i did i'd probably get a 50's four speed thorens, just cause i'm not all that serious. since i moved out of california and away from jack's record cellar in SF, i just haven't been finding or buying them. currently, i make do with a teenbopper columbia portable, complete with modtastic black and white checkerboard covering. you know the ones, one speaker, uncertain pitch, and shitty, shitty needles. but if i ever have a party at the beach with frankie and annette, i'm ready.
i also have a 78 copy of big mama's thorton's "hound dog" and some tres bitchin chinese and japanese 78s that range from the sublime to the absolutely bizarre. i try not to destroy those on the columbia too often.
