There are rumors that 101 matches of Soul Calibur 2 may be played in my apartment on Saturday.

I play Soul Caliber 2 on a regular basis. And it's all about Raphael, Xianghua, and Assassin. And Nightmare when you just want to pound the living hell out of people.

I played Kilik for a while, but everyone wised to him. Once you learn his moves, those blocks that push your opponent off are easy to catch him with. And I prefer juggling characters, because they drive people nuts.

And I prefer toad, too. Princess is overrated. She picks up the weeds too slow.

Last week Raphael was the subject of some intense winning streaks. I also did well with Talim and Xianghua. Cervantes is probably my favorite right now, though. I always giggle when he tells my opponent that he's going to burn them to ashes. That shit's tough.

I'm more down with Mario. Sure, Toad is strong and all that, but Mario is pretty well-balanced, and he can jump a lot better than Toad can.

anybody have a fighting stick for their respective system?

I imported the GCN version of SCII in March of '03 (about 6 months before the US version was released) and promptly built this:

It's got the guts from GCN, PSX, and DC controllers in it, so it works on all three systems. I play a lot of Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Guilty Gear X.

smart design. I like how you give plenty of wrist room.

Jesus I'm fucking impressed! That's totally awesome. I want to build my own sticks, but I'm mechanically retarded. I have two of the Nuby official SC2 sticks that work with Xbox, PS2 and GC. The only fighting games I play anymore are Soul Calibur 2 and Guilty Gear X2. That Capcom shit isn't doing it for me anymore. The Nuby sticks have gotten a bad wrap on SRK and soulcalibur.com, but I'm happy with them. The buttons feel right and the sticks have a nice amount of tension.

How would one go about making a joystick? Are there any resources you could point us towards?

Somebody else named Nate built a stick for a MAME emulator here:
http://users.ids.net/~ngoulet/controller.htm

I got all the parts from this place:
http://www.happcontrols.com/

I adapted my design from the numerous ideas at this site:
http://wrongcrowd.com/arcade/joystickp1.shtml

The hardest part was wiring the arcade buttons to the guts from the controllers. It's imperative that you have a controller that uses large contact points to make the soldering easy. Most of the cheap 3rd party controllers work well.
