I'm voting for Nader

Post by stillafool » Sun Aug 22, 2004 11:22 am

I love the way Democrats are casting the issue -- a vote for Nader is a vote for Bush. A vote for Nader is a vote against the system, and you should have that choice (the Democrats are true to character on this issue, doing whatever they can to restrict your choice on the assumption that only they know what's good for you), regardless of the consequences. I'm voting against a system that puts a bumbling Texas redneck against a finger-pointing, patronizing clown with no vision -- or I'm not voting at all.

... and since you're in California it won't matter anyway, the dems are a shoo-in.

But yes, it's bullshit that voting for nader is voting for bush, since 100 million people didn't even vote last time.

Stilla,

I agree with you in principle, I really do. But the fact of the matter is, and this is a departure from my last posts on this topic, we need to get Geroge W Bush out of office. He is, IMHO, owned by interestes that wish to take this country further to the right than it's ever been (at least in modern times). And though I'm not necessarily a leftist (more of a left-leaning libertarian), I believe it is very dangerous to move too far to the extreme on either side.

I heard something interesting on an NPR segment about political advertising. It was from the 1988 campaign, and featured Mike Dukakis saying, among other things, that this (1988) would be the most important election in our lifetime. It made me think how this is a sentiment expressed every election - granted, they are all important, but are they all the most important? When dems say that they admire Nader but are so fearful of a Bush victory in the "most important election in our lifetime" that we all must cast for Kerry, is it really that? I'm sure we all have our ideas of what the most important election really is or was - for me, I have to think that '68 was the most important in modern history - but I guess what I'm wondering about is how the spin and fear factor work together in this instance.

I disagree. I think the more extreme it gets, the more everybody will be driven out of their complacency, and get creative about solutions. I hope we get four more years of Bush.

... and the fact is that I wouldn't choose any of the candidates, if I had a real choice. And neither of the two parties want you to have a choice, unless you choose them. So fuck both of them. I'm voting for Nader.

Yo Stilla, this topic was covered ad nauseum here: http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopi ... sc&start=0

Honestly, if there was anyone else in the White House right now, Rep or Dem, I would vote Nader. But Bush has simply got to go.

Yeah, definitly, i feel the same way. I really think Bush has got to go. Kerry seems like the only good choice to vote for.

It really dosn't matter they're both Skull & Bones and they're both special intrest multi-millionaires who have no fucking clue what it means to be lower or middle class. Nader is the only canidate who is talking about real issues and is well educated on the topics he does speak about. So even though it is (sadly) a throw away vote Nader offers the only real option. But then again I support a move towards democratic socialism.

Here is an interesting article about George Bush and how he is treating the Oval Office.
