RAY (the Ray Charles movie)

Saw this last night. It was great - lots of great live and recording scenes recreated. Many a tear-jerking scene, too. Thumbs up!

This movie is great to see in a theatre with a decent sound system.

And the one thing that stuck out to me is how incredible the recordings from the 50s and early 60s sounded, for example, to the more recent re-recording of 'georgia' during the credit roll. One set of recordings has this magic quality to it. The other simply doesn't. I mean, it isn't even close.

I'm now willing to put up with any and all hassles from tapes and tubes from this point forward.

Yeah, this was great. Jaime Foxx was so incredible too. I'm generally a pretty bad judge when it comes to acting, but if he doesn't win the Oscar for this roll, it would be a total robbery. And robbing a blind man is just wrong. He'll probably win though, I hope.

And to think I used to consider this boring blues. This guy had real soul, and so does Jamie Foxx in his own way. Cool to know QJones was part of the whole scene. Awesome.
