These songs can cause car accidents!

Post by sonikbliss » Wed Oct 27, 2004 2:29 pm

Don't Drive and Listen to THIS!

Is there danger on board? Yes. And it's in your CD player or radio!

Turns out, if you listen to certain songs or musical compositions while driving, you could be courting disaster. And the No. 1 tune to avoid is, oddly enough, classical music: Richard Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries."

That's the word from Britain's RAC Foundation for Motoring, which has helpfully released a list of the top five songs you should never listen to while driving. The raucous "Ride of the Valkyries," written in the mid-1800s, earned the top spot because it's too loud and the tempo is too fast. You might be tempted to match your speed to the beat.

Top five tunes you should ban from your car CD:
1"Ride of the Valkyries" by Richard Wagner
2"Dies Irae" from Giuseppe Verdi's "Requiem"
3"Firestarter" by the Prodigy
4"Red Alert" by Basement Jaxx
5"Insomnia" by Faithless

What CAN you listen to safely while driving? This will do it fine, as long as the volume isn't turned up too loudly:
1"Come Away with Me" by Norah Jones
2"Mad World" by Gary Jules
3"Another Day" by R&B singer Lemar
4"Too Lost in You" by girl group The Sugababes
5"Breathe Easy" by boy band Blue.

Maybe it's urban legend, but apparently 'radar love' has led to many accidents in the US.

T-Rex is terrible to listen to while driving. You also shouldn't listen to Patsy Cline or Buddy Holly while flying.

Ashlee simpson live performance will make anyone crash.

Setting: Dark night in a tv equipped Lincoln Navigator

passenger: "What the, did she just sing without holding the mic to her mouth?"
Driver: "What, let me see."
Passenger: "Look out"
Both: "AAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Later:
6 o clock news reporter: A Lincoln was hit by a semi rig on highway 10 today. Aparrantly the two people, in the oversized vehicle, were watching Saturday Night Live this past saturday with Ashlee Simpson perfoming her latest chart topper. The shock of Ashlee not being able to sing must have steered them into the opposite lane causing them to hit a large rig head on. When will the horror stop? Will these teeny boppers just learn how to sing for God's sake. And this concludes my evening report.
For some good new music check out The Medusas

Back when I could bike to work more often, I'd find myself singing (or thinking of singing) various tunes with appropriate tempo and a lot of rhythm in the vocal line. Of course lately it's been Tom Waits ballads, but "Sgt. Baker" by Primus is a great bicycle song. So is "Here Come the Bastards", and for that matter probably all the other songs on "Sailing the Seas of Cheese".

It's a pretty typical response, but I like Swervedriver's Mezcal Head for a driving album. And you can't forget the first Hot Snake's album.
