That is so awesome.

He's got a lot of really, really good points there.

That's great. I feel alot better hearing someone articulate the anger I feel, but am unable to express. The south has been pissed off ever since we passed the 'civil rights' bill. I really wish they would secede, as they're pulling the rest of us down.

i was just talking to my wife about this the other day. And it isn't just the south, but many in the midwest too. I hypothesized that both coasts were in effect deeply subsidizing the rest of the nation. You can also include key urban areas throughtout the US, but the point is that there is a huge geographic disproportion of wealth (and not just money, but things like ideas and art too; and i am talking purely regional, not socioeconomic).

From public works, helath anc social services, argiculture, and industrial... With this increasingly global economy we may be funding an uncompetitive low-medium skilled trade partner. Of course it is much more complicated that that, but the issue is clear to me.

Maybe my thoughts aren't totally clear on this, but that site struck a nerve.

half of the original 13 colonies were southern states. where did he get the idea they were there first? the mayflower landed in the south! DC is located in the south (at least it was considered the south at the time). the first president, george washington, was from the south. the author of the constitution (madison) was from the south. the author of the declaration of independence (jefferson) was from the south!

the south is the main provider of many things they've always enjoyed. milk, cotton, tobacco, rice, etc. the north needs things like milk, but as for the south, how much of the north do they really need? how many exports does the south enjoy from urinetown?

some good points, but all in all the guy seems about as ignorant as the people he is attacking. what makes someone an asshole based on their geographical location?

and while i agree the deep south has had a history of bigotry and ignorance, overall that stuff existed largely in the north as well, just in different ways and forms. the civil war was a fight to remain united, and a fight to protect human rights not to be slaves. the south was not full of inbred biggots, and today, 150+ years later, it most certaintly is a million times different.

personally, I like the fact that we have a wide variety of opinions in this country. If everyone was either all conservative or all liberal, nothing in this country would get done. Usually, when you have one "liked mind" group of people living together, with no other outside influence, things start to get weird. People need to be kept in check.
