Explain your User Name

Post by rhythm ranch » Mon Nov 29, 2004 8:50 am

Mine is the name of my studio. I've got a ridiculous number of drum synths/machines/modules (hence "Rhythm")and it's on a "spread" in the New Mexico mountains (hence "Ranch").

What's your story?

Unbelievably catchy, old, old, old song from the Smithsonian Anthology of Folk Music.

A villain who antagonized a serious Leslie Nielsen in Forbidden Planet and a silly Tom Baker in a Doctor Who adventure.

A nickname I picked up in college. Doesn't get used much at all, but came in handy more recently as a guaranteed-unique name for the plethora of forums I belong to.

I'm a nut.

Actually, my original idea for a business name was Mercenary Audio. I had made business cards and everything before I realized Fletcher existed. That was when I didn't know anything.

I decided on Walnut because it reminds me of the place where I am from in SW Portland.

My vocal booth is just a closet stuffed with foam. It is therefore both foamy and also a closet. I'm thinking of changing. I like change.

Maybe...bonertrumpet?

- fait accompli
An accomplished, presumably irreversible deed or fact.

I started using it for my webdesign services and just use 'phait' for my name everywhere else pretty much.

I was tracking drums (with the great Bobby Pamplin) for my first surf driven cd "Dark Side of the Dune". My bride saw the weekend as an opportunity to get out and see her brother and nephew, who was five. He asked where I was, and she told him about the drums, mics, and amp stacks. His comment was "they're gonna shake the beach". We came close... :D

12th grade Spanish class. We were reading Don Quijote, and were translating the word for "lance", the old jousting weapen. I decided to blurt out "That's a good name," and proceeded to sign my name as Lance on all my papers. When my teacher would call me by my real name, I would correct her and say "Lance". Then she would correct me and say "Lance Romance." So I started using that too. The ? is a tribute to that class.

My real name is Ben Garber, but perform under the name Lance Roma?ce. I use that name more now cause I'm a self promoter.
