There's another midwestern transplant in Brooklyn

Post by Stan Keyhole » Sat Dec 04, 2004 3:25 pm

And it's me. Do you Brooklyn folks still do beer nights? Let me know; I'd love to weasel my way into the next one.

By the way, I have no trucker hats. :D

Welcome to Brooklyn! You only need the trucker hat in Williamsburg, if you're drinking PBR.

There's a great dive over here (park slope) called O'Connor's. Had a 7 & 7 over there the other night, and a Kaluha and cream for my girl and the total was 6 bucks. It wasn't even happy hour.

How about every first Thursday of the month, or some such thing?

Sounds great. I'm over in Prospect Heights, so I could walk there no problem. We could even cheat this month, and do it on the second thursday...

I've spent the last ten years in Raleigh, NC, but I'm really a Michigander. New York is looking a little, uh, faster-paced than Raleigh, but so far I love it. I look forward to meeting some of you guys.

That's funny. I grew up in Raleigh. I moved to Brooklyn earlier this year. It was cool at first and then it slowly kicked in: Waiting 30 minutes for the train late nights and weekends. Walking three blocks with a heavy sack of laundry every week. $5 for a bottle of Budweiser. Astronomical rent prices. Having to go into Manhattan to the Toys R Us just to get some goddamn air conditioning in the summer. Two months ago I moved back to Raleigh into a brand new apartment with sparkling appliances and a washer & dryer and air conditioning and SPACE and it was at HALF the cost of living in Brooklyn. When I go out somewhere I'm not at the mercy of the public transportation system. It's an incredible feeling and I won't take it for granted ever again. So, I'm really happy that I had the chance to live in the city. But I'm also really happy that I got the hell out of there. That being said, hope you enjoy it! :D

Sounds good to me. What time? I'm a block away... we should hang sometime.

Man, that place is totally convenient to me, but tonight is not a good night. Next time!

And welcome to Brooklyn.

So tonight will be kind of "off the books", so to speak... not that any of these will be official.
How's 9:30 for those who can make it?

Sounds like every first Thursday is a plan, unless there are objections. We could either rotate the venue or keep it the same, for the sake of simplicity.
