The Feelies - Crazy Rhythms
Beatles - Revolver
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation (although Sister is my favorite, too, it's just that Daydream nation is longer.)
Nuetral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane over the Sea
Public Enemy - It takes a nation of millions...

God, that was hard. You mean I won't get to listen to Bob Dylan? Or the Kinks? Or Stevie Wonder?!? Oh, how I hate this island!!!! Deliver me!! Deliver meeeeeee!!!!

geez kaliyuga you got my record collection!

the verve's "storm in heaven" is an INCREDIBLE record. i say their best. i'll even say better than MBV's "loveless" in the shoegazer category. im serious

Im glad you mentioned the shaggs... its about time someone on here acknowledggesss the awesome melodic brutality of the sisters Wiggins.

the Pogues "Rum Sodomy And The Lash" Christ thats a GREAT GREAT record. produced by Elvis when he was "on" ...you know its gonna be good.

I went thru a big Sun Ra phase a few years back and I really burned myself out on it until my friend rented a Sun Ra video from the library and it was pretty mesmerizing how sincere and passionate these guys were about their music and it got me right back into it .... Space Is The Place.

my vote is either this Bix Beiderbecke comp vinyl I picked up 3 months ago that has yet to leave my turntable. OR

or this James Scott complete works for piano by Guido Nielsen that Ive been listening to for 2 straight years... This guy is incredible...playing phenomenal music. double disc... sooooh much music!

doyoudigworms? (great name, btw - and that avatar is so creepy/amusing)

Man, the Shaggs are one of the very few bands that can make my tear up at times - pure, unadulterated expression, with a great backstory to boot.

"A Storm in Heaven" is definitely one of the best in the 'shoegazer' category, but your pushin' sacrilege with the MBV remark
That record ("storm", not "loveless") means a great deal to me, primarily because it was released in my 'formative' years and still hasn't gotten tiring after an entire decade. Damn, it's strange to think it's been that long - I vividly remember seeing the video for "Blue" on 120 Minutes while lying on the couch suffering from the flu - next day, sick as a dog, I went out just to by that cassette, hah!)

It was tough deciding which Pogues album to list - it was a toss-up between "Rum", "Red Roses for Me", "If I Should Fall . . ." (of course), and "Peace and Love" - I was heavily into them for quite a while, not so much anymore, but they can always brighten my day.

I'm only about a year into my Sun Ra phase, so I've got a lot to explore! Do you ever hear work by an artist and it's exactly the type of sound that you've been wanting to hear for years, but never knew existed? That's what he's done for me. Plus, he was out there. I'd have loved to get him in a room with Lee "Scratch" Perry and throw them both chicken feed.

Oh, and I don't know how in hell I forgot this one but - "Deceit" by This Heat is one of the best albums I've ever heard in my life . . . and it's been out of print for a looooong time, which is why I don't own a copy (grits teeth).

Must do a search for Bix Beiderbecke . . . what a cool name :)

2nding Cassembler on Dummy.

Also VU's third LP (the quiet one), Nick Drake's Pink Moon, Joy Division's Closer, Cinemaphonic Vol. I (Emperor Norton Library music comp). But it does vary a bit, even from week to week. Like Scott 3 could've easily been in there, ditto Can's Ege Bamyasi or more recently GYBE's lysflath.

I'd bring a guitar. Maybe some gamelan or koto / shamisen stuff. Some Highlife, too. And a hammock.

Re: BOC Agents of Fortune. I hadn't realized how many of those songs I'd actually heard before in one context or another! I was entertained and pleased. as the soundtrack to a lifetime on a desert island, though... not sure. Ha!

Hey, I want to be on your island - I'll bring a bazouki, more gamelan music, some Redhook, and my futon mattress!

It's a party and I'll die if I want to.

My answers to these kinds of questions change constantly. But at the moment I'd say:

Radiohead: OK Computer

Wilco: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

The Flaming Lips: Clouds Taste Metallic

Nobuo Uematsu's Piano Collection for Final Fantasy 6

Nuetral Milk Hotel: Aeroplane Over the Sea

Ask me tomorrow, though, and the list would probably vary. I'm so fickle.
I am wangtacular.

I'm glad you said that. My favorite too, although I suspect most people would pick Soft Bulletin or Transmissions.

Most people do pick those, but Clouds Taste Metallic is one of those albums that, once I hit "play," my work is done, because every song on that album is excellent. Granted, I feel that way about those others too, but not as strongly.

Neil Young 'Decade' - okay, it's actually 3 albums
Velvet Underground 'S/T' - another vote for the 'quiet' album
Spacemen 3 'Perfect Prescription' - drug album to end all drug albums
Flaming Lips 'Soft Bulletin' - rang in the new millenium for me
Stooges 'S/T' - how this happened in 1969 is beyond me

'perfect prescription' is a great fucking album. i just don't understand why nobody name checks them more.

'storm in heaven' is top five for me but the EPs before it are really really good too. it's a crying shame they couldn't sustain that brilliance.

The Desert Island Five

American Beauty/Workingman's Dead - The Grateful Dead: 2-for-1 cassette bought at Record Town that never leaves my car (so how it would make it to a deserted island with me raises many deep questions)
OK Computer - Radiohead
Green - R.E.M.: accompanied me to Israel and on nearly every other trip I've made since 1991.
Earth and Sun and Moon - Midnight Oil
To Our Children's Children's Children - The Moody Blues

If I was travelling, though, I'd likely also have these with me:
Ambient 1: Music for Airports - Brian Eno
Physical Graffitti - Led Zeppelin
Ogden's Nut Gone Flake - The Small Faces
Who's Next - The Who
Kind of Blue - Miles Davis
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Face the Music - Electric Light Orchestra
Mr. Fantasy - Traffic

ok, my first post. I think I would need to laugh, cry, and drink alot. Is the island deserted...? that rules out all the old classic smooth R&B. so here it goes:

1. Reggie and the Full Effect- Promotinal copy

2. Mogwai- Ten Rapid

3. Sunvolt- Traces

4. Death Cab For Cutie- We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes

5. Allman Brothers- Eat a Peach
