I usually keep my mouth shut on these kind of topics - kind of pointless, kind of fun. I saw stevemoss mentioned the Small Faces ... I've been very into Long Player and A Nod ... lately, but I've never listened to them when they were still the SMALL Faces. what album should I get?

Ok, out of indecision, and lack of sleep:

Gram Parsons - GP/Greivous Angel (two LPs on one cd, never gets old)
Santana - Caravansarai (I'm a devoted gypsy)
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life (what can I say that hasn't been said?)

um, how many are we naming here? I'll give three more ...

The MC5 - S/T
The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Braveryrepetitonandnoise (the older albums are better, but this has got a certain vibe...)
Anything by Jimmy Buffett

almost made the cut/driving to the island:
The Faces - A Nod is as Good as a Wink (ah, decadance!)
The Drive-By Truckers - Southern Rock Opera (beautiful!)
The Allman Brothers - Live at the Fillmore East (the newer double-disc cd version with more songs. The best live album ever made. Ever.)
The Chamber Strings - Gospel Morning (mmm soft Beatles-gone-indie)
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (of course)
The Soledad Brothers - Steal Your Soul and Dare Your Spirit to Move
Dylan Live '66 (Royal Albert Hall, London; first electric show; gets booed and called "Judas")

sorry I get out of hand with this stuff

Hey, you just reminded me - these are two albums I've been meaning to listen to for a while, but haven't acquired copies of just yet. His stuff with Flying Burrito Brothers and the Byrds is genius, but I've never heard his solo material.

Thanks!

Jim, if you're looking to get into the Small Faces, I'd suggest picking up the 2-disc compilation The Darlings of Wapping Wharf Launderette - it's got the complete Ogden's Nut Gone Flake album, as well as containing most of the album that preceded it, the rarities collection that followed it, and a generous selection of singles. It's a great collection.

They would have to be:
Te Main List...
Phish, Maze
James Brown, In the Jungle Groove
G. Love and Special Sauce, Yeah It's That Easy
Ben Harper, Fight For Your Mind
Dead Kennedy's, To Drunk To Fuck

At a close second though:
Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Live at the Wetlands
Miles Davis, In a Silent Way Sessions
Nirvana, Unplugged
Bob Marley, Natural Mystic
Marvin Gaye, What's Goin' On

steve, thanks for the pointer on the Small Faces. I'll probably buy that in the next week or two.

Jason, the Gram Parsons solo stuff is awesome. You can tell it sounds ike the FBB and the Byrds album he played on, but it's got more of a traditional country sound - that's all I can think of (lots of vocals by Emmylou). The arrangements are awesome and the studio musicians are incredible. It's both albums on one cd for like $14.99 or some crazy price.

Monkeyfist - have you listened to the new Robert Randolph yet? I haven't but I'm excited. I've seen him twice in the last two months - once at Bonnaroo, and one at this little club in Cincinnati, very in your face. At the club, the second time, it was almost like being in church. It was pretty intense ... kind of spiritual.

Jim

sthslvrcnfsn,
Nope I haven't heard it yet, I just returned last month from a cruise thing I wasx doing, so I have been racing to catch up on stuff that has just came out. It hadn't been very easy up till a few weeks ago when I started trading more with people I hang with. My computer is fried at home so I have to use my work computer and I can't download onto it. But I am very excited to hear it! Those guys Rock and they rock and when they rock they rock and they really rock!
