Starting an Internet Radio Station
I want to set up sort of an audio webcam on my website. I am going to plug my stereo into my computer, so you can click on a button, and have live streaming audio of what ever I'm listenig to right now.
How would I do this?? Should I have a dedicated computer??? What about speed?? I have DSL, but its slow.
What's more, how do I set it up. I know how to plug my stereo into my computer, and record audio from it. I have no idea how to make it stream over the internet. Is this hard/expensive to do??
I checked http:/www.live365.com which does stuff like this, but they have ads. I don't want ads.
Ideally, I'd like to do this all in house, without having to go through another website. Though having it stream on iTunes would be nice, but i suspect I will just do real audio.
Any one know anything???

1. You need to be running windows XP server OS, or Real media low-end server software.Lance Roma?ce wrote:I want to set up sort of an audio webcam on my website. 2. You need a static ip from your ISP. You may be able to get away with some kind of dynamic referer service- such as dynip or the one that was run by stardock. Basicly, your ISP will be assigning you a new ip address every time your machine joins or leaves the network (and possibly other times, depending on the type of internet service you have) Without some kind of fixed pointer, there isn't any way to point people to your service.
3. Windows media encoder is free, I'd start there.
In other words, it's a colossal pain in the ass for such little gratification, unless you do what my buddy Maer did, and put in the time to start the world's greatest music station.

You'll need >some< kind of media server. The only real fix thing is that you need a static ip address.Lance Roma?ce wrote:sserendipity wrote: Do which part exactly?sserendipity wrote:You need to be running windows XP server OS, or Real media low-end server software.
As mentioned, shoutcast may be a way to go, if you intend to create a streaming playlist (come to think of it, everybody I know who is doing this seems to be using shoutcast - I am sorry I didn't mention it).
I am unaware of a live media encoder/server that runs on the Mac. There are Unix versions however, so it is quite probable.

Thanks!!! That looks very good, I am looking into it.
I'm not broadcasting iTunes though, broadcasting from my record player. So for playlists, youll just have to write me and ask.

Re: Starting an Internet Radio Station
Ok, I've got it "boradcasting" and streaming and all, but still havingtrouble.
The URL is http://63.212.166.222:8000/playlist.pls but I can't get it to work.
I am listed at http://www.rogueamoeba.net/streams/inde ... %20Streams under "Lance Roma?ce's Broadcast". That doesn't work either.
I get the following error when i run a server check:
Server Checker encountered error:
socket.error: (22, 'Invalid argument')
Something is obviously working if I'm listed on their webpage, but I have no idea why it doesn't work.
I am just rebroadcasting local radio now to test it.
Any help to get this going would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using a router or are you behind a firewall?
America... just a nation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable.
