Dimebag Darell shot dead....
Re: Dimebag Darell shot dead....
holy shit. that is terrible. this world sometimes. people are nuts.
pantera blew my mind in the early 90's when i was in high school. at a time when hair metal was huge here comes this bad ass HEAVY band that rocked my face off.
Really awful.

It says 'reportedly' so I get the impression it's still not for certain... either way, if he is dead.. that's unbelievable. I never was a fan of Pantera, but still...

Re: Dimebag Darell shot dead....
If it's true (here's another - http://www.foxreno.com/news/3983737/detail.html ) that's truly lame.
Back when I was a long-haired metal freak, me and the band gigged with Pantera on the CFH tour. Darrell was always up for the extra fun - We'd combine bands after the show and play goofy cover tunes that neither of us really knew for whoever stayed around (which was most of the crowd). He was a standup guy. I haven't seen him in several years.
On the other side, we played at Alrosa Villa once when we were touring with Manowar... Honest to God, I remember that place specifically - There was this weird "Children of the Corn" feel to the immediate area. We were very uncomfortable there for some strange reason.
I'm not saying that there was actually anything strange about the place - Maybe it was just lack of sleep. Still, I hate to say that I'm not shocked about the thought at violence breaking out in that room. Creepy...
Friggin lame, though. Gonna tug a shot of Gentleman Jack for Darrell and make some calls. Some friends of mine were very close friends of Darrell's, and I would imagine they're pretty bummed at this point.

Re: Dimebag Darell shot dead....
dimebag was the riff master. i get more and more discouraged everytime i read the news.
Re: Dimebag Darell shot dead....
All I know about that guy is Musicians' Friend pushes his signature guitars. What do they do if you die while you have guitars and fx named after you? I can see it you're already dead, like the John Lennon Epiphone Casino, or if you're still alive, like the "Blackie" Eric Clapton Stratocaster. But what if you die? What happens?
Violence. Ugh. It's probably too late for anything to be done about it, but the second amendment really lacked forsight. We need either a more peaceful, less hostile and individualistic culture, or fewer guns. The mix is shit.

sonichue, i would think that dimebag was getting royalties (or something like that) from having his name slathered on equipment, depending on who he left things to in case of his demise, that person (or entity) will be the one who gets his money from the endorsed products, they'll still keep making them for however long though...

Re: Dimebag Darell shot dead....
that is messed up. it must have been horrific to watch for the concertgoers.
but the article never says who the other three that died are... were they in the crowd?

Man, this is nuts.
Dime was on the cover of "Guitar World" every other month when I was in high school. Too sad.
Who of us would DARE rock out on a 300 watt solid state Randall stack?
Not I.
Sad.

Re: Dimebag Darell shot dead....
if he is dead, you can bet on a double thick tribute issue of Guitar World magazine with every possible riff explained.

Re: Dimebag Darell shot dead....
Leave this shit for the rap scene, never expected something like this would happen in metal, maybe some busted lips, broken ribs, but guns? This fucker is probably some delusional jackass who blamed Dime for "breaking up Pantera" and couldn't live with it, as though they, the band had ANYTHING to do with that crazed fucker of a "fan"

Re: Dimebag Darell shot dead....
I remember hearing about a member of Pantera, I think it was Dimebag Darell, who overdosed on heroin and died for 4 minutes. Then the next night, he played a show. That just blew me away, not that he died, but that there was noone in his entourage that didn't find a replacement or get him into rehab or something. The music industry is fucking sick.
