George Winston's "December" - pure nostalgia. It goes back into storage til next Christmas Eve.
I get satisfaction of three kinds. One is creating something, one is being paid for it and one is the feeling that I haven?t just been sitting on my ass all afternoon.

Hey, Bear, I just read an article about "The Blue Notebooks" in SOS. Why do you like it? What's good about it? I think I might just shell out for that bad boy.

I owe you an email, too. It's a-comin'.
The Max Richter stuff is minimalist compositions, with a bit of odd drum sequencing mixed in. The album is sparse, but in a good way. I like his melodies, and it's an album that I put on and leave alone until it's done. Which is always a plus in my book.

Check out his website and listen to the songs there. "November" is amazing.

Will do!

BTW, Rachel's "Sea and the Bells"--and the rest of their records--are killer. I love the way they don't seem to recognize the boundary between classical music and rock music. A lot of people hop between genres, but those two are pretty goddam divergent. Plus, tape loops, ambient room sounds (check out the Chicago el on "Music for Egon Scheile"), etc. Great band, and Rachel Grimes is a terrific composer.

I was listening to Music for Egon Schiele last night and this morning. I got three of their albums about...a month or so ago and listen to them about everyday. Pretty good stuff. Egon's my favorite of the three, I think. At least for right now.

Yep. And since that drummer happens to be one of my absolute favorite drummers, I can't help but squeal like a girl whenever that guy plays. And I have all their records and listen to them a lot. Systems/Layers was definitely one of the best albums I heard this year. I could listen to "Water from the Same Source" all day.

But yeah, if you like Rachel's, you'll probably dig Max Richter's stuff. And don't skip Johann Johannsson either. Another awesome modern composer: www.johannjohannsson.com. I can't wait to hear his new record.

I'm too cool to listen to music anymore, I just listen to tape collages of sound effects- industrial machinery, bird noises and people laughing and screaming all mixed in together with random Moog bleeps and bloops. Sounds quite a bit like Radiohead, really.

Seriously, I'm listening to the posthumous Peter Laughner collection "Take The Guitar Player For A Ride".
