we give the most foreign aid of anyone on the planet in terms of net $, but we give the least in terms of % of GNI. it's all a charade. take afghanistan for example. we booted the aid workers out so we could bomb the shit out of the place, then we dropped pop tarts all over the place -- thus once they were allowed back in the workers had to gather up the meager supplies we dropped and redistribute them (air-dropping supplies is apparently more bombastic/photogenic than efficiently shipping them by truck). it's fucked, reallly.

I've had a hell of a time trying to find detailed info on Thailand! I know Phuket got it pretty badly, but the earthquake alone must have damaged other areas. I visited there a few years ago & was planning on going back next year- I still want to go back, but I don't know how much of what I saw before is still there!

I don't recall anyone really giving a shit when 20,000 people died last year in the Iran earthquake. And the US only gave $100,000 in aid. It's too bad there's no oil in the south pacific or we could move in on these islands while they're in crisis and start drillin'! yee-haw!

our bad. the seismic instability in the region was directly correlated with our use of the "bunker busting" "earth penetrator" armnaments over the mountains of afghanistan. i mean think about it -- 4,000 lb. explosives detonating 100+ feet into a mountain has got to have its side effects.

Ahhh...I finally figured out where I'm gonna go, when I finally give up on life.
The place is called Phuket.

Yeah, I'm just gonna say... 'phuket' and go fade out into the sunset, in Phuket, Thailand.

Not a bad place to do that (other than the occasional natural disaster)- it's insanely cheap to live there, Thai people rock & a lot of the women are hot, and there are always bars open. Hell, who wouldn't want to end their days on a beach with a drink in one hand & a cute Thai girl on their lap!

SERIOUSLY! A bottle of that stuff came with my hotel room in Sukhothai & didn't even have a real label- it was like a glued paper thing on the bottle with one Thai word. Holy CRAP is that stuff strong. The last thing I remember from that night was singing "Puff The Magic Dragon" with a bunch of Japanese businessmen in a small karaoke bar next to the hotel.

And the majority of the Iranians from that crisis are still homeless...
