illumina record release @ the Mercury Lounge NYC - Tonight

Post by Marc Alan Goodman » Sun Jan 09, 2005 9:15 am

I figured this is an occasion worth posting about

My band illumina is releasing our record Nightlight tonight at the Mercury Lounge in NYC.

It was mixed by the one and only Joel Hamilton.

We play at 10. So if you're in the NYC area looking for some sunday night festivities, stop by and say hello. I'll be the guy in front with the goofy hair.

Open letter to Marcocet:

Illumina totally saved my ass last night. Let me explain.

My wife and I moved to NYC in December, and hadn't really had a chance to see any live music up here yet. I was on the subway Friday, and saw a blurb about Illumina in The Metro. I thought, hey - that's a TOMB band, maybe I'll check out their show this weekend. That same night, my wife lamented to me that she really wanted to see some live music. So, I pitched the idea of your show, and she seemed interested.

We rolled up to Sin-E at about 8:45, for the 9 o'clock show, with a friend in tow. We had just come from the Christo yawn-fest in Central park*, and were ready to be impressed. Uh oh. The first band of the night were playing, and they were not our speed. It was pretty painful, actually. Time started moving in slow motion for me, as I had two young ladies looking at me for some sort of explanation. I had convinced them each to shell out eight bucks, and all on the word of some dudes on a message board. If Illumina sucked, I would have a lot of explaining to do. Now it was personal.

Luckily, you guys were awesome. We were all instantly won over. At one point, after the bass player went to the floor toms for percussion accompaniment, my wife grabbed my arm, and said "I loved that!"

Whew.

Thanks. I know after the show you said you were dissapointed, but take it from me, you made at least three people's night, and saved at least one ass.

*By the way, if anyone wants to recreate the singular experience of walking from the parking lot of Nickelodeon Studios to the front gate of Nickelodeon Studios, you should check out the $20M disappointment currently on display at Central Park.
don't stroke the small stuff
