congress on michael moore

Post by high tek » Mon Jan 10, 2005 7:50 pm

although it seems that the attempt for a Ohio state recount is futile (what a surprise) they sure like to talk about michael (both sides)

whats funny when it comes to the republicans - how they keep using the word 'conspiracy theory' and calling him a liar, I still have yet to hear a single example of a lie in F911.

You are not alone.

I'm tempted to rent that 'Fear and loathing 911' video or whatever it is called, just to see if they do more than grab hold of the slightest, most inconsequential dubities and try to paint a picture around them.

Here's some food for thought, however. Certainly the kind of smoking gun I am looking for, though at this point in the 'Is Michael Moore a lying bastard?' debate, I'm going to have to check every damn fact myself before I believe it, or accept the author's sense of the gravity of the mis-statements. There's been so much empty bullshit thrown at him for saying things that people don't want to hear but should, that any accusation got's to go through the ringer before I'll eat it. There's just too much shit and inuendo, the purveyors of which we are better off aren't quite the world's most critical thinkers....

There was a clip on the tube of the Peoples Choice Awards from last night, in which Michael Moore and Mel Gibson both attended, and both won awards.

Apparantly they like each others films, and Mel went on to say that he doesn't understand why we're in Iraq. He said no one has ever explained to him in a way that he understands, why we went, and why we're still there.

This, I found shocking. I figured since Bushco sort of co-opted Mel's movie, as the right wing's comment on good (God) Republicanism, i was shocked that Mel is actually against the war.

And Moore saw Mel's 'Passion' twice.

Well, we do have more than one policeman on the Oregon coast. In fact, we have the Coast Guard, the Air National Guard and the Air Force as well...

my government teacher is way far from being a republican, but told us several times not to get your knowledge from michael moore, noting several ways in which he knows moore is wrong, even in his approach to the way the govt works.

it was just interesting. my teacher also makes fun of o'reiley and tells us not to believe him either.

i guess i learned a good lesson: don't believe anyone!

You don't need to listen to Michael Moore. I've never even seen F911. All you gotta do is look in any newspaper. This administration takes prisoners who have not been convicted of any crimes, flies them to countries where human rights laws don't apply, and tortures them for months on end. Any questions?

Moore is a big fat socialist. But then again, so was George Orwell. If it's truth, it's truth. The problem has never been what we do read, it's what we don't read. If we choose to accept altered perceptions of the world, thats our own fault, not the one crafting the truth. But the truth is scarce when 99.9% of the media gets it from CentCom or White House Staff journalists.

Moore is'nt the one failing the American people.

although i totally agree that you DONT NEED to see F911 because all the other bullshit is SO obvious (your example is one of MANY), you shouldnt be afraid to see F911 cause it really is good.

unlike moores books which i dont really like, this movie is done really well.

regarding the republicans calling moore a liar and whatnot, what ALWAYS amazed me is HOW quick these idiots are to point out the smallest innacuracy of any of his statements, but totally blind to the HUNDREDS of HUGE lies coming out of the white house.

they can spot a sliver of wood in his eye form a mile away, but not even notice a huge log up their own ass.

quite scary - when people CHOOSE to bow down to ignorance and stupitdity.
this is what happened in germany 1939.

BING BING BING BING BING! What's that principle that says that no matter what conversation happens on a messageboard it's only a matter of time before Hitler/Nazis get invoked?

(not that the point isn't still valid-)

Short history lesson.
Hitler was elected - thats right - elected by a democratic majority of the Greman people in 1932(year may be wrong). Points are 1) he was in power for a number of years before the big shite really got started, and 2) just because the majority says it's okay & goes along doesn't mean it's right

regarding moore -- i think he's good as a gateway alarmist/socialist. he's not the most intelligent, articulate, or talented, but his gets the message across in a way that is broadly accessible. it's unfortunate though that he's so damn ham fisted in his endeavors. i think people are on to him and his tactics and it'll become progressively more difficult to collect his shock material. i think fame and success (both creative and financial) has affected his credibility. he's become polarized from the inside, sporting a dual-lifestyle that detracts heavily from his purported purpose. he is no longer able to spit flames, only flashy cgi flames added in in post.

Here's an interesting blurb from the IMDB: The lead film critic of the New York Daily News has taken Michael Moore to task for ditching an appearance at the New York Film Critics Circle dinner awards ceremony where he would have picked up a Best Documentary award for Fahrenheit 9/11 and instead flying to California to receive the favorite movie award on the televised People's Choice Awards. Saying that Moore's actions deserved an award for "Slight of the Year," Jack Mathews commented, "He chose the nonaward over the award, the patronizing TV show over a dinner with peers, the photo op over the credibility op. He chose to patronize the public as bastions of good taste, and to pretend that his anti-Bush screed had captured the fancy of a nation." Mathews remarked that it is unclear to him how Fahrenheit won the top award for favorite film. "Typically," he noted,"the film that sells the most tickets wins this award." Other analysts have pointed out that this year the producers of the show altered its selection procedure, ending their deal with the Gallup organization to conduct a scientific poll of moviegoers and instead conducting a vote on the Internet, subjecting the voting process to politicking and the equivalent of ballot-box stuffing.
