Re: Nu Beck - sorry Seachange fans....
i like to make records loud by turning the big nob on my '70s Sansui block

i know i may be shot, but i can't stand nigel's "sound". it's so convoluted (and i'm not talking waves IR, har har). what happened the the stereopathic beck? is he too complacent to be lo-fi? did scientology rob him of his analog roots??? did l. ron hubbard dianetically audit his 4-track into non-existence???? fuck that!
medicate? oh, i thought you said "meditate."

Sea Change is an awesome break-up record. It's a bit convoluted, but I thought it was pretty honest.
Of course he does start one song with "there's a bluebird at my window ..."
Hmm.

musically, i think it's great -- and it totally is a breakup record (he wrote it after splitting with his long time hair stylist). sonically however, i find it uninspiring (except for the snare on paper tiger).

i downloaded most of the album about a week or so ago, before they took it down and i can say this....i have always been a huge beck fan,and loved everything he's done..this is no different. it harkens back to his loose limbed, stream of conciousness vibe of odelay, with a dash of vultures and i even hear some sea change in there as well. i think it's a perfect combo of all he's done before, and i think the album will be a great summer album...i gotta say though, my fave is mutations, that album kills me.

I saw beck at Echo in LA the a couple of weeks ago. All new album stuff trotted out for a "secret" show. Pretty fun and groovy I'd say. Plus the show was free...
