Hmmm... I wonder if the Motu Mac folks were right about TapeOp?

Whether or not you like that generation of music, Townshend is/was one of the top innovators - pro-quality home recording, a lot of improvements in concert sound, etc. "Who" and solo releases haven't all been great, but there have been some really good albums in there.

humorless? WTF? The Who "Sell Out." Fucking funny as hell. Great record. Totally innovative. Totally unpretentious -- well, as unpretentious as you can get for an art rock record, but you know...it sort of made fun of the whole pop band thing. Made it aware of itself. Pop, you know. And he who's never air guitared to Baba Reilly really missed out in an important adolescent stage.
