Re: I have $100
How do I go about doing this? Has anyone here bought foreign currency that could advise me?Greenlander wrote:Buy $100s worth of Euros and then buy back even more dollars when its value collapses sometime in the next year.

It doesn't make sense to buy foreign currency in small dollar amounts, unless you plan to spend it, because of the ever-present...apropos of nothing wrote:How do I go about doing this? transaction fee
Put $100 into a bank account, and keep doing it until you have an amount that's meaningful, then re-ask. The people who were suggesting precious metals weren't too far off.

But say I have a larger amount, say 5-10,000 that I wanted to convert to foreign currency. How would I go about it?

Airports, and most banks have currency exchanges in them. Hell in the U.A.E. they are on every street corner it seems. But then again, so are "bling bling rolexes" (or as we poigniantly call them... Stolexes)

you should check out Everbank - http://www.everbank.com/. check the currencies section. it lets you open an account in whatever currency you want - euros, swiss francs, yen, etc.. it is basically a savings account, but not quite as liquid, it takes about 3-5 days to retrieve the actual money. that's what i've been told.apropos of nothing wrote:But say I have a larger amount, say 5-10,000 that I wanted to convert to foreign currency. If they really pull it off. I'm kind of out-of-the-loop these days, so I'm not sure how freely yuan are trading on the open market -- controlled, supposedly socialist state and all, but just like a country like Argentina can't keep their currency up, China won't be able to keep there's down.
This is the stuff that made Soros a billionaire (except he bet against the British Pound). He's the guy who blew something like $18 million on the Kerry campaign.
