sounds that make your teeth hurt

Post by workshed » Sun Jan 30, 2005 5:59 pm

You know those sounds, like fingers on a chalk board, sending chills down your spine. For me, this sound is that of Aaron Neville singing. Every time.

What sound makes you want to remove your ears with a cheese grater?

I cannot handle the sound of "THE drill" in a dentists office. Even if I am there just to get my teeth cleaned; if there is someone in the next room getting some drill action, I cringe. For some reason it is amplified 10x when it is on t.v. or in a movie. Horrible, horrible sound!
The smell of a dentist's office makes me gag also when I first walk in. Such a synthetic/unnatural smell.

That's a good one. I also hate it when I hear someone scrape their teeth on their fork. That one kills me. Or my son grinding his teeth in his sleep. Teeth sounds in general. Ugh.

socks rubbing on carpet or sometimes certain kinds of paper rubbing together have the same effect.

Worn-out ball bearings. The jittery high pitched whine when a rotating machine part stops spinning straight. Bleaaggghh. Some machine in the laundry room next to my apt. is doing this right now and it's sending the ugliest sound all through the building via the water pipes.

oh. it doesn't make my teeth hurt, just my brain.

ALSO: cat fights. and the pathetic whining sound cats make when they're miserable and trying to get your attention. worse than nails on a chalkboard.

When the TV is on with nothing on it.

Oh, hell. When ever the TV is on, except 60 Minutes.

NOOO WIRE HANGERS!!!!!!

I hate the sound of the shit they make us listen to whenever we go shopping. Even if i like the song, i hate the principle. Muzak is like prozac for your ears. evil.

When i'm at the studio and someone goes into the kitchen looking for a glass, and they always open EVERY OTHER G-DAMNED cupboard before finally getting to the one with the glasses, and they're slamming the damned cupboard doors shut for like 30 seconds. Makes me insane.

i will third that.

the other night my lady and i were working our way out of a packed club. the band was playing a reasonably quiet song. when we were precisely right in front of the stage they went into the nice and loud chorus, featuring the drummer wailing on his crash as hard as he could. i didn't have my earplugs in. pure undiluted hell. it was awful. i don't know how anyone can watch shows without plugs in. jeebus.
