those squat toilets are the worst. my grandma lives in a rural town in s/w honshu where apparently they're still the standard. squat toilets are my anti-drug.

granted it's beautiful but, it just seems like, if avoidable, wood bathrooms are a no no.

Good call, i agree, it'd be nice not to have the cystern in front of you when you pee, i don't know why, maybe it'd just make a change. A change is after all as good as a rest.

Or something.

Deliberately?

If so, that kind of reminds me of a friend who asked 'when was the last time you pissed yourself?' just so he could tell you he'd done it the week before. Nice.

Japan has some funny holidays. Nov 3 is Handkerchief Day, Nov 10 is also Elevator Day, and the 11th is Cheese day. I kid you not.

My birthday (June 11) in Japan is also Umbrella day. Other June days include Photograph Day, Bag Day, Refrigerator Day, Bowling Day, and UFO Day. In September there is a Hair Combing Day. In December, there is a Car Battery Day.

But my favorite month for crazy Japanese holidays is August: Sightseeing Day, Water Day, Scissors Day, Taxi Day, Nose Day, Abacus Day, Beard/Moustache Day (no joke!!), Hat Day, Motorcycle Day, and more.

I am not making any of these up. I'm only surprised they don't have a Mullet Day yet.

The Travel Channel did a piece on Japanese toilets recently. They have special toilets for women that make 'cover up' noises and spray perfume. They're digital.

I don't think I'd like a digital toilet. Too harsh. I definitely prefer the warm punch of a good ol' analog toilet.

Whatever. You are just one of those snobs who's never tried one, and is afraid of change. So, perhaps the quality of the experience is a little less distinctive? I bet you couldn't even tell the difference. And the cheapness, convenience and speed of production more than make up for it.

I hear they are closing the last toilet paper factory, anyway. Prices are up to $20k a roll now.

Damn. Looks like I'll need to buy a bidet.

I don't want to be bothered with the complexities of a digital toilet. I just want to lay down my material, get some great sounds, and move on. There's something to be said for the simplicity of an analog toilet. The maintenance is hell, though.
