I think you're using 'worst' a little more literal than I am. I just mean, there's good and there's neutral and there's less, which is worst of the three. Worst isn't abject or oppressive, it's just unfavorable. Once you hit the literal worst most of your choices are made for you.

So anything unfavorable usually isn't all that bad, but you want something better and if all possibilities have relatively equal chances, you might have something to become pleasantly surprised by. It's a cynical mo, but hard-wired I guess.
