I have a 7" I got from Sundazed, its maybe the Beacers, or even the Trashmen possibly... I forget, but it was disappointing.

I have a dedication inside my 2nd CD to my two biggest heros: Andy Rooney and The Big Bopper.

King Crimson - Get Thy Bearings (an old Donovan tune)

Flying Luttenbachers - De Futura (originally by Magma), INSANE!!!!

Fibonaccis - Purple Haze (their version was twisted and HILARIOUS!), the theme from "Psycho" (SCARY!)

Mae West - Twist and Shout" (she sounded like Johnny Rotten/Lydon)

Tool - "No Quarter"

RUINS - Black Sabbath and Mahavishnu Orchestra medelys (have to be heard to be believed!)

O-Negative - "Summer Breeze" (Imagine that sappy Seals & Crofts tune turned into a death metal dirge!)

I totally dig RUINS, very unique sound and they have the stones to actually pull it off!!

Charlie Hunter - Come As You Are (Nirvana)

Pearl Jam - Driven to Tears (the Police)

Brad Mehldau - Still Crazy after all these years (Paul Simon...say what you want)

Eels - Get ur Freak on (Missy Elliot)

Brad Mehldau - Things Behind the Sun (Nick Drake)

maybe not obscure enough, but those are awesome

Coltrane's My Favorite Things was a great answer.

I found that record to be a real disappointment, it's not very groove orientated or imaginative, both of which i expected it to be. hey ho.
I dunno, I think I'm the only person on the planet other than Alan Jackson's mom who likes that recording. I get down. There's a good few elevator music moments but there are enough flashes of brilliance to keep me from selling it to the used CD store.

good one on the Type O Negative cover of 'Summer Breeze', i just remembered Skankin' Pickle's version of The Vapors' 'Turning Japanese'...what i like about that version is that it has an actual asian guy singing the lyrics...he sings it in a purposely slightly broken english accent too which makes it twice as ironic...
if it'll wang your chung then it'll thompson my twins...

Probably not incredibly obscure, they made a video for it, but the Four nonblondes version of Zeppelin's Misty Mountain Hop is pretty ripping. Linda Perry sounds like she's about to explode...
