with google, there's a submission you can do, just keep following links on their site and you'll find it. after that, get a bunch of people to go to your site and it should show up pretty quick. don't know bout yahoo.

google is automated. If you keep searching for it it will eventually turn up over a few days. If you search for "Hairy Chested Records" you get my site right on top and then 23 pages of gay porn.

Yeah, my friend Dave and I invented this game that combines basketball with freeze tag, and then when I was bored one day at work I made a site for it. Now if you search google for "Who invented basketball?" our site is the ninth to come up. We get hundreds of hits a day from people who I assume are looking for who invented basketball, not our silly site. I even got an email from this 12 year old kid in like Poland who wanted more information on the foundings of basketball.

Anyway, try putting your site on the dmoz directory (www.dmoz.com). Once it's listed it will come up in other search sites.

One criteria Google uses is how many outside pages link to yours. When I set up my first domain, I searched for it on Google every day. After about 3 weeks, it showed up, but it was on the second page of listings.

After a couple other sites linked to mine, it hopped to the top of the list.

So get listed in directories, or ask friends to link to you.
