Echo and the Bunnymen

Post by Lostboy » Wed Nov 19, 2003 8:08 pm

is anyone else besides me excited that the first few bunnymen albums are being reissued?

on a related note: does anyone have their album "porcupine" ... ? it's the only one of their "best" albums i don't have and i'm thinking of getting it ....

Porcupine is cool. It has some of my fave Echo songs including The Cutter and the Back of Love.

Lips like Sugar is one of the best songs ever recorded.

in my ever so humble opinion, i've always thought "Porcupine" was the weakest of their early albums. it does have some of their best songs (the cutter, back of love, and my white devil), but overall i never found it to be as cohesive or consistent as "Ocean Rain" or "Crocodiles."

do the new echo reissues have any bonus/unreleased tracks? if so i might be interested in them. otherwise i'm perfectly content with my LPs. besides, i think their albums covers were all so gorgeous that having them on vinyl kind of enhances the experience.

yes, the reissues DO have extra tracks (a LOT of them in most cases). it's mostly live stuff and unreleased versions of their early songs. i haven't heard any of the extra material, though.

sorry it took me so long to reply!

I love the Cutter and Back of Love, from when I was a kid someone made ma comp with those on it. I recently found a cassette in a used shop of that album, and while I love those songs, I found the album itself a little annoying -- too much self-serious.

I'll have to check out Crocodile.

What about Jesus and Mary Chain, they were always kind of f*&#ing genious, they picked up where your precious Echo left off.

No Probs. I just thought it was funny that this was a echo thread and that scene panged through out my head, like the church bells that used to ring in the U-dist.
