this %$&# computer?
Hey, where'd the computer forum go?
OK, I know it always had kinda low traffic... and a lot of the same questions tended to get posted in general... but is it going to re-appear?
just wondering... (great work on the new board, BTW!)

Re: this %$&# computer?
Yeah.... I liked the computer section as well. It seems like most people who are doing home recording are doing it on computers nowadays.
It seems like tapeop the mag has outgrown it's home recording tips and has been writing about bigger studios, gear, and producers. Which is cool... but at the same time losing it's original appeal.
Take a quick look at the Tapeop book, and compare it to the magazines of the past 6 months... things have changed. There are still articles about independent label bands, but not much about thrown together home studios.
But I guess all things must grow...
Even the message board is fancier javascript:emoticon('')

Re: this %$&# computer?
i prefer the computer questions not to be "ghettoized" in a seperate but equal board.
and yea, tapeop has changed. i think it is a bit of a reflection of larry and his growing business and skills and professionalism.
but luckily you can still get some real basic starter advice from this board and of course from the book. and maybe someday when someone puts the FAQs together ...

Yeah I want the computer board back, too. I was also really into "How do you___?" But I will be happy just to have the computer board back. Please!!!
Re: this %$&# computer?
I kinda felt like it was'ent being used right anyways. It was not technical, like "how do you copy OS9 over OSX". It would seem just as well if there was a forum for Analog. Just sounds silly.

Re: this %$&# computer?
It may not always have been technical, but it was pretty technical most of the time. I mean, the people who don't record with their computers have no use for info/recommendations on D/A coverters, Firewire speeds, individual audio programs, or what have you. These may not be the most "technical" of considerations, but they certainly have nothing to do with recording on an 8-track reel-to-reel. It was kinda nice being in the ghetto.
It's really not a big deal, I just liked it better the other way.

maybe we do need more ghetto forums. nuthin like posting something and a week later, out of the fact that someone felt sorry for you, decided to answer.

eventually there may be a FAQ section in the archives...but not right now...that's a lot of work.

on one in their right mind would want to take on the FAQs
not only would it be a very time consuming task, it would involve some editorial choices that are bound to piss people off.
