I've been meaning to check out Ted Leo and the Pharmacists.
How would you describe them?
Some of the best lyrics I've EVER heard have been on the two most recent Bright Eyes albums. Pretty cool production, too!
At least proof for the old timers that ALL kids are not dumb!

i'd say they're a good musical mixture of punk and folk, actually... pretty good songs, and i really like his voice. good sounding production too, in its own weird way.subatomic pieces wrote:I've been meaning to check out Ted Leo and the Pharmacists.

I saw David Bowie last night. He's pretty good and might have a future at this music stuff...

Re: new bands to listen to
I should probably start a new thread called "new bands to see live", but there's a band in Portland called Kleveland, which I guess you would call garage rock, that really kicks.
It's basically Stephanie Smith, who actually is a rock star, just not famous for some inane reason. She can play(guitar), is pretty, "feminine", charismatic(very) and has power in ways usually reserved for men. High energy. Quite capable of embarassing rock dudes.
Anyway, Portland crowds are pretty complacent. They could see a great show and yawn afterward, but I gotta bring it up because the world could do with more Stephanie Smiths. She's that interesting, especially if you like rock-n-roll.
Someone asked me today to think of a charismatic person you've met and she's the first person to pop into my head.
I can translate the live performances to the 'CD listening experience', but I can see how someone who hasn't seen them can be less than impressed.
Anyway, there's EP I got from "CD Baby", and I have the previous incarnation called Spectator Pump which is probably better except it's missing a bass player and has a second guitarist.
Thanks for indulging my procrastination from what I really should be doing.

Re: new bands to listen to
Bowie is one of very, very few "classic rock" people whose newer stuff is still fantastic!
Rolling Stones? pshhhhh.... great in their day, but couldn't hold Bowie's jock these days!

Bad Wizard - I've never seen anyone do rock like these guys. check out Free and Easy. www.teepeerecords.com/badwizard/
I second the motion for Candiria. Ken shalk is a sick, sick drummer. check out Beyond Reasonable Doubt. Some seriously freaky metal.

Good stuff, indeed... "My Mother Was a Chinese Trapeze Artist" is one of the best songs I've ever heard. And I've heard dozens.rockstarfactory wrote: THE DECEMBERISTS
