I gotta second the Uncle Stiltskin nod. Really nice indie twanginess. Bear, I still owe you a record, except my music isn't as good so I don't know what to send!

I also really like Four Tet if you are interested in electronic music that is organic and interesting. It's sort of folktronica in a way, I guess.

Here's two paragraphs from an article about Four Tet that ran in the Guardian in the UK
Four Tet is an unusual project. Hebden's music sounds like folk music made by machines. It is frequently out of time, as if the machinery went haywire while making it, and computers are at the heart of the creative process.

Hebden's own taste tends toward those people who have always been outside of the fashions of the day, among them the free-jazz musician Pharoah Sanders and the German avant-garde rock band Can. "I think the ultimate achievement in music is when you manage to change people's perception of what's possible while, at the same time, producing something that connects with them instantly," he says
**

Finally, there is a band from Austin that came through LA a while back called Grand Champeen. They fucking rip live in a Replacements/Superchunk kind of way. I think their record, The One That Brought You, is only about 60% as fun as their live show, but their tune "One and Only," which is available free as an mp3 here is really good. Fucking marvelous guitar solo.
With my Les paul, I know I'm small.

i just got the new jason forrest record. he goes by Donna Summer sometimes, and was in a band called Cock Rock Disco. he does all this silly dance/mash-up stuff. it's quite good. this new one is full of classic rock (CCR, the Who, The Cars, i think) and tons of disco, mixed with hip hop and IDM. it's SO good. imagine, if you would, a four-on-the-floor big beat record filled with wailing guitar and synth solos, and drum solos every five minutes or so. that's what this is.

it's PURE HEAVEN.

I was on a bill with them a few years ago, and they put on a hell of a show. I remember thinking at the time, "These kids are going to be stars."

The CD was pretty much your standard screamo, though.

That damn fine Broken Social Scene rekkid "You forgot it in People". I came late to the party I know, but it still rules.

The Colour (http://www.thecolour.tv) were just in town, and stoked me with their Joy Division/Cure rock sounds. Nice surprise as an opening act for a bunch of crappy bands!
