Tom Dowd and the Language of Music

Post by foley » Fri Aug 13, 2004 9:18 am

Good review of the new Tom Dowd documentary in today's ny times. Here's the link, I hope it works:

This guy really was a genius, and this movie sounds like excellent viewing.

Have a good day!

If this is the one that aired on Cable/direct tv a few years ago it is exceptional. Dowd was a genius and a musician. In one scene they are all recording together on the floor and not isolated. He is serving as much as producer making suggestions when he walks by somebody playing a Les Paul and casually mentions his "g" string is out of tune...as if you'd quitely say to someone "your fly is undone."

No ego. Just the pursuit of art.....

Amazing film. We'll be showing bits at TapeOpCon 2005! The best is him working on the Manahattan Project and then returning to recording music instead of physics...

NPR had a very nice piece on this...aired Sunday morning, August 15th.

The film will be out on DVD in a couple of weeks. I'll buy one for sure...
