Beer Suggestions

Post by zarcharius » Thu Sep 16, 2004 10:27 am

I love beer. I love all beer equally. I love beer more than your mom.

I want to try some more microbrews and quality type beers. anyone got any personal favorites? I've tried a few different ones, but it seems like for every quality microbrew I find I end up hating 2 others.

And remember kids... please enjoy these products responsibly.

Bells Oberon. But they only make it in the summer. In fact, most of the stuff from the Kalamazoo Brewing Company is pretty damn good. The only one I don't like is the Two-Hearted Ale.

Cool I'm getting a list together to take with me when I go beer shopping this afternoon. Keep the suggestions coming.

Oh and I'm jealous of all you bastards that live in PA and take Yuengling for granted. That is a damn fine beer and almost impossible to find up here.

I went to college about 20 minutes from Erie, my buddies and I used to make beer runs down there constantly. Supposedly their increasing distribution up to Buffalo soon. I can't wait.

Another good PA beer is Straub, from St. Mary's. Comes in brown or green bottles, and I remember two subdued gentlemen losing their cool in an argument about which is better. After testing, I found both get me lit.

I'm also a fan of a New York beer made in Suffern's Brewery. I forget the name, other than Suffern Brewery Beer, but so far it's hardly distributed. Found it once in a Brooklyn beer brewtique, but otherwise I have to get it from the Brewery.

Oh, and New Yorkers: Brewery Ommagang in Cooperstown. Great Belgian style beer in champaign bottles. Duvel, of course. And I've got a soft spot for my old standby, Pilsner Urquelle, though it's hardly a microbrew.

Funniest damn thing- I was just in Stockton on Tees in England, and the bar next to the venue had about five types of Samuel Smiths on tap! Being a favorite of mine also, I yelped for joy and ordered up a pint of bitter. The club's bartender saw me drinking it and enjoying it, and said "You like Sam Smiths?!?!? It's considered a piss poor beer 'round these parts."

"What do you drink then?" I replied.

And no shit, he said proudly- "Budweiser!"

He could tell from my open mouthed blinking that I was dumbstruck. He said it's the most popular beer amongst the young in his area.
