This is kind of a no-brainer, but the first time I worked with a DAW (Protools)...that was a HUGE difference. Non linear editing?

Also, more experience than gear, but the first time i attended a mastering session with mixes I'd done.

when I stepped up from a Tascam MS16 to a 3M 2" 16 track. The difference was HUGE.

Another vote for telecaster.

proper electric guitar lessons count as gear? That helped A LOT too.

Groovetubes Ditto Box. I have a JDI Duplex that I use,it sounds great,but something about the all tube gain on the Ditto that really shines for me!
