well yeah, I think a lot of Branca's decisions especially earlier came from a more theatrical point of view, and that the drums are not so much a purely musical decision as some kind of statement, like flipping the finger to academic music.

There seem to be a few Philip Glass fans here, haven't seen this link posted yet. If you haven't checked out the IBM Glass Engine, do so...

Yeah, no kidding! I keep wondering how they got all those people in the same place at the same time. If Brian Wilson was in there, I would have figured Photoshop for sure.

of all the moderns, he seems most likely to fall into a pit of pretension but his music is amazing. the day I realized the 19 minute rocka on Dance Pieces never actually repeated I almost peed myself. fa fi fa fi fa fi
He's a little glassian but I like John Adams stuff as well.

Re: steve reich, gyorgy ligetti, john cage
holy thread! gotta love the tape op board. i've gotta give a nod to the recently discovered lou harrison, whose work i found through my love of gamelan music. nice to see someone mention shri camel, too. that's probably my favorite riley, with dorian reeds coming in a close second. anyone here into the work of michael nyman?
i discovered his book on experimental music after reading william duckworths talking music. i knew of and liked his music in the greenaway films, but had no idea he wrote such a comprehensive book. worth a look.
