So I just got back from seeing Festival Express at the local megaplex. Has anyone seen this movie? It is absolutely fantastic - a great documentary about the Dead, Janis, the Band, etc. traveling on a train across Canada and playing shows.
Garcia plays a little number called "Better Take Jesus' Hand" during the film. Anyone have any idea where to find this song? I tried the New Riders of the Purple Sage song lists and no luck. It's traditional. Anyone?
If you get the chance, see this movie.

Re: Festival Express
I haven't seen the movie.
Even though it's credited as "Better take Jesus' Hand" in the film, I believe it's actually "Cold Jordan", a traditional tune that the GD recorded.
These are the lyrics from "Cold Jordan", do they match what you heard?:
Oh sinning is a gentilized journey take Jesus as your daily guide
Though you may feel pure and saintly without him walking by your side
And when you come to make your crossing at the end of the pilgrim?s way
If you ever will meet your savioryou will surely meet him on that day
Now look at that cold Jordan look at it?s deep water
Look at that wide river oh heavy mighty billows roll
You better take Jesus with you he?s a true companion
Oh I?m sure without him that you never will make it home
That awful day of judgment is coming in the by and by
We?ll see our lord descending in the glory from on high
Oh let us get in touch with Jesus and in the special love of God
And maybe ever get ready when he comes on Jordan?s tide
Now look at that cold Jordan look at it?s deep water
Look at that wide river oh heavy mighty billows roll
You better take Jesus with you he?s a true companion
Oh I?m sure without him that you never will make it home
Now what you gonna do? What you gonna say?
Oh how you gonna feel when you come to the end of the way?

Yes, this is the song. I found some copies of it on archive.org. Thanks for the tip.
btw - turns out this movie is coming out on dvd in November with additional footage. Great Janis scenes, and the footage of the Dead is priceless.
