For live vocals Another vote for the EV767, just got one and used it last night for a live backing vocals with a small PA (Mackie 808s and 2-15" Yamaha speaker cabs) nice clear sound. I had been using a 57 but the EV seemed much more clear. Haven't tried it for recording yet.

Shure Beta 58A
Shure Beta 52 and AKG D112 (for a choice on kick drums and floor toms).
EV ND257/357 - A smooth, warm-sounding vocal or guitar cab mic.

EV RE-18 Good sensitivity, warm, excellent hypercardiod rejection and nice proximity effect in a super rugged mic.

Cover the vents on the body and it's a omni, too.

A cheap useful mic is the Audio-Technica MB 2k. This is an update of the MB 2000. It is designed as an instrument mic and it has a very hot top end. The reason I like this mic is because it sounds so different from everything else I have. Useful for micing the bottom of a snare and for anything where you want to add some zip to the top end.

Glad to see some votes for the EV ND x57 series. I have a 357, and i like it a lot for clean guitar amps and sometimes lead vocals. Very smooth, warm sound, takes eq well (add some highs sometimes). No thinness or big presence bump like am sm57.
