Going to see Mission of Burma

Tomorrow, with Eleventh Dream Day opening no less. This cold is kicking my ass but how could I miss something like that. I'm hoping for an evening of serious guitar abuse.

that's bad ass, i didn't know they had reformed? who's filling in for the dead guy? his name escapes me at the moment...

Nah, no dead guys. I think one of the reasons they broke up in the 80s was their guitar player Roger Miller was developing serious tinnitus. They had a guy Martin Swope who played tape samples and effects and stuff who is living in Hawaii now and decided not to join them in reforming, but everyone else is in the band. Swope was replaced by the Volcano Suns/Shellac guy Bob Weston. Anyway, looking forward to it.

I saw Burma in Chapel Hill last week- you won't regret it. I'd been waiting over 15 years, and it was worth it.

They're amazing, amazing. Amazing. I got to do a couple of songs with them at their Boston (Avalon) show in June. It was cool to play with them, but really, the best part was getting to see the show from the stage. Awesome.

Roger wears serious hearing protection, but it doesn't slow him down a bit.

My favorite "rock band" ever!

The new album is fabulous, too.

I saw them back on the last tour of their original incarnation (1983). Changed my life, I gotta tell ya. They played two very long sets and 6 encores at the end. Six!

I said "Todd Trainer" but meant "Bob Weston". I'm a moron. Anyway the show was incredible. They acted incredibly inspired and full of energy. Miller wore serious hearing protection, and stood behind his Marshall combo yet was still able to coax his signature feedback craziness out of the amp. I never tried feedbacking from behind the amp, I've gotta try it.

How many shows can you say "I went home with a smile on my face" about. This one, definitely.
