Chaos Cabaret comes to Portland and Seattle!

Post by vmoney » Thu Nov 04, 2004 9:31 am

Hey Portland and Seattle Tapeoppers,

My band "The Famous" (http://www.thefamous.net) will be coming to Portland and Seattle this weekend as part of a travelling circus known as Chicken John's Chaos Cabaret. It's going to be an incredible 5 hour long oddball variety show with musicians, burlesque dancers, comedians, and much more... read on!

We need 200 people to come to the show to break even so please tell all your friends and spread the word!

November 5th -- Portland

Dante's, 1 SW 3rd Ave, Portland, OR

November 6th -- Seattle
The Catwalk Club, 172 S. Washington, Seattle, WA

San Francisco?s darkest dive, the Odeon Bar is Mecca for ?other? entertainments. Odd, unlikely, original variety arts have a home in the Mission district of SF. Owner Chicken John retired from the life of a traveling Showman to settle down. No more touring shows, no more fly-by-night one offs and no more sleeping on the ground. He opened a nightclub. He didn?t stop what he was doing, he just did it all in one place. Chicken John has spent 20 years promoting, showcasing, performing in and underwriting variety and circus arts. He now offers a stage to host the acts that he once offered. He graduated. But he is restless. Restless for the thrill of the hunt and the monumental impossibility of it all; he did the improbable. He took the thing that was to replace travel on the road. He took the bar. The whole bar. The staff. The acts. The doorman. The customers. The d?cor. Loaded it all in a bus and a few cars, locked the door to the Odeon for the weekend and hit the road. Behold; the Odeon is the first traveling bar!!!!!!

With a show 5 hours long and a cast of 29 people and a dog this showcase of what?s goin? on at the Odeon promises to be the best show yet. The acts are short, to leave time for all of it to happen. The show is hosted and moves like a variety show should; fast! Staring with an opening video segment from Krob, then a dissertation & slide show from Church of the Subgenius founder Hal Robbins on dinosaurs, comedian Will Franken, synchronized dance troupe Sparkle Motion will make you remember Menudo, avant-country music act The Famous, pogo-stick stripper Roky Roulette, magician Maxwell Coldpepper, the smooth vocal styling of Jascha Ephraim, Samba dancer Kellita of the Hot Pink Feathers, the incomparable Rubberboy, a cello and a singer Loop! Station sounds like a choir and an orchestra, piano styling of Burlesque legend Kitten on the Keys, Toshio Hirano will do a little bit country and a little bit Okinowa, Dammit the Amazing Wonder Dog will do her awesome routine of trix and to finish the show off we?ll all Sing Along with Chicken and Hal. Hosted by confusionist Chris Karney these are just the named acts there is more stuff in the show? it starts at 9:00 SHARP and must go on time to leave room for everyone to do their thing.

"The Odeon provides a home for amateur entertainments. This show is a perfect example of just that. This collection of performers are doing what they do because they love it. Traveling with this bunch is the reason I do it, the whole thing is really fun." Chicken John
