Tube Amp for ipod...sit down first....
Forget that $350K tube amp that was on here a few days ago. This is where it's at. A tube amp for those times when you want audiophile quality listening from your ipod. Of course, it would be too easy to just use the rca adaptors to connect to your existing hi-fi. This one is tuned specifically for the ipod.

The only true great mic on this planet is the Shure SM-57. It is the most consistant in not totally sucking of anything ever built. All other mics are "application dependant".

Visual HarmonyThe triode tube based amplifier and the exactly matching speakers are in perfect harmony with the iPod.
Re: Tube Amp for ipod...sit down first....
I dont think a tube amp will improve on the poopsi sound of Mp3 or AAC.
they can't create lost dynamic range or frequency, but man... tubes look cool!

If it was coated with C37, then it would be worth it...

This is true, but you can hold quite a lot of music in Apple Lossless format on a 40GB iPod.japmn wrote:I dont think a tube amp will improve on the poopsi sound of Mp3 or AAC.

Re: Tube Amp for ipod...sit down first....
the only thing that has going for it is the wireless transmission from the airtunes. Other than that it is pure novelty and pure garbage. I mean the only thing a great tube amp is going to do is make you realize how bad your ipod actually does sound! Why not get an old McIntosh or Dyna Co. amp with that money, and a hyundai, and maybe an above ground pool? Are rich people crazy?!?

$4,290.54 at the current exchange rate. That is fucking hilarious.
Damn. The dollar has dropped even more since the last poster calculated this.

That is the most ridiculous "audiophile" piece of useless expensive crap since the $600 potentiometer that was being made fun on here a year or so ago.
Re: Tube Amp for ipod...sit down first....
yes, that amp is totally useless, and this is coming from someone who owns $40k worth of speakers and amps (not counting live gear). But, I am consistently amazed at how good a well made AAC track sounds coming off my ipod. It sounds better than a portable CD player with a shitty transport and shitty dac and shitty headphone amp. My ipod sounds darn good playing 320k AAC files!
No its not as good as my meridian CD player when used in a home system, but I doubt most peoples "event" monitors could show the difference.
My verdict is that the ipod sounds great.

Re: Tube Amp for ipod...sit down first....
I have a cool old scott tube hifi amp that I listen to my ipod through all the time at home, and CD's. I wish everyone had home stereo's with tubes in it.japmn wrote:I dont think a tube amp will improve on the poopsi sound of Mp3 or AAC.

i have some osngs that are just demo's or were emailed to me at 128kbps using itunes to encode, just for writing lyrics to, and they actually DO sound better at home on the tube hifi than in the studio where the "underwater" high end gets a little much. I love the iPod, and I love music, so i listen a lot. the iPod makes that easier, and I am glad it exists. I have like every supported format on my iPod, and aiff sounds almost the same as AAC at 320kbps through the converters built in.
Music is fun, I dont always care about fidelity.
