I hate all the reverb plugs or hardware I have ever heard.

I always think they sound good for a minute but then after repeated listening They all start to bug me. It's the artaficial quality I cant stand. It seems like it's easy to find good delay, compression, EQ, or even distortion effects. But reverb I'm just never happy, with one exeption Yamaha's SPX900 sounded alright, but I don't have that kinnda money to spend on reverb. Any Ideas???

Seriously. There are the CHEESIEST reverb boxes on earth that under the right circumstances, kick ass. I used an MPX100 for en entire record a while back, and I had to filter and manipulate it a bunch, but it worked and added a nice depth and space to everything.

If that does not work for you, start saving for a lexicon 480 or better, or maybe just chamber everything in your live room? I have chambered cheap reverbs to make them sound "real" and that works amazingly well. Just send your verb returns to a pair of speakers in the live room and mic that with a pair of monis, return to where you would normally return the verb and go....

Have you heard convolution reverb? I was at a Waves class earlier this week and the IR-1 is sweet! We were listening to 4 second verbs and the tails were nice, I didn't hear any of that digital graininess. They a/b'd with the regular R-Verb and the IR kicked its ass so hard it wasn't even close.

The covolution reverbs are about the best thing going.

If used correctly, they're the most viable substitute for an actual room there is. Still not completely ideal, but pretty damn close in certain situations.

Logic's "space designer" is scary....it had me looking behind my shoulders. It is extremely realistic and models actual environments.

I'll second Space Designer. I've been using it to create fake rooms for drums tracks, and it's killer. I generally hate most reverbs as well, but this thing really works.

Though nearly impossible to find, the Quantec Room Simulator...I forget the model #...was the best sounding fake reverb I've ever heard. You could put it on the whole kit, and it sounded good. There's a couple of useable reverbs in the 480L, and for no good reason, I kinda like the SRV2000...so fake that it's interesting. Other than that. I can't stand 'em.

I can make the Digiverb work. but after using the IR-1 I don't want to ever use the Digiverb (unless I am going for and effect). To bad I ain't gots the cash flow to buy it..

Well if you mean the SPX90 or any other SPX model besides the 900 I could see your confusion. SPX90 $175 SPX900 $1000 Thats the diffrence I hear.

Use real reverb! When you track put a mic or two way far from the source, use that as your reverb. Track or Reamp/chamber in a really good sounding room and don't worry about the digital sound. That said, just EQ'ing DVerb can make it sound very passable, not to mention them convolution joints.
