Re: does anyone else dream of being interviewed for tapeop
Unless TO were to expand into other areas of sound recording besides music (there are some, honest), I don't really see them being interested in what I do most of the time.
Larry did print one of my letters once, which was nice of him.

Nowhere near as cool, but I was interviewed for Electronic Musician a few years ago:
http://emusician.com/artists/emusic_mod ... index.html
It was a phone interview with me and the guitarist from the band, talked for about an hour and a half. I remember feeling pretty incoherent that day...

Maybe they could run a readers spotlight. Each month show one of us in our studio, talk about the gear list, the sleeper gear, what gear we could never part with, what the market is like in your area, and what your background is. Kind of a regional round up or something?
I would like to read about it.

LOST TAPEOP INTERVIEW #1
TO: So, do you have any formal recording or electronics training?
rolandk: My cat, Miss Samantha Kitty, taught me everything I know about recording.
TO: Your cat?
rolandk: Yeah, she's really smart. She tells me which mic to use, how to position it and whatnot.
TO: uhh... umm... heh. How long have you been recording?
rolandk: 817 years.
TO: OK, I think we have everything we need, thanks!

Yeah, ever since Mad Magazine started to suck. That's still my real dream, though. To be ridiculed in Mad.

No, that's when I started reading mad. It started to suck when you started writing for it.ubertar wrote:You mean, when you turned 14 and discovered girls?Lance Roma?ce wrote:Yeah, ever since Mad Magazine started to suck.

So that's what I've been doing during those bouts with amnesia...
I was wondering what all those checks were for.
Maybe you could explain why your mom's phone number was written on my penis?

Re: does anyone else dream of being interviewed for tapeop
I was interviewed for Mizz magazine for an article about buys in bands when i was seventeen. That's probably about as close as i'll be getting.
Re: does anyone else dream of being interviewed for tapeop
I was thinking something along those same lines after visiting a local studio last month...a series of articles/interviews about small studio owners who thrive on the local scene. I'm particularly interested in how these people have to diversify what they do to keep their studio alive. Maybe quick one page interviews, bunched in threes every issue, or one issue with 12 or 15 of them all together. I don't know...seemed interesting to me anyway.BEARD_OF_BEES wrote:I think TO should do a section every issue on the little home studios of "nobodies" ..could be a lot of value in that..
I got interviewed by a local music magazine once, and the reporter decided to insert some 'facts' about the band I was in - totally fabricated, and absolutely hilarious. The best was how I had just learned to play bass so I could be in the band, or how our guitarist came from Texas to assemble a group of dream bandmates.

You may think that it doesn't make sense...but I suspect a lot of folks would be interested.TapeOpLarry wrote:When's someone gonna interview me for Tape Op.

And yes, I realize that you say something at the start and end of every issue. Save it for some big anniversary issue and then you can be excused for patting yourselves on the back. Another idea would be to put together a TapeOpCon only "zine" in the old style with interviews of the movers and shakers at Tape Op. Someone could finally ask Andy Hong how he became such a man of mystery.
Re: does anyone else dream of being interviewed for tapeop
Interviews with readers and/or 'garage studios' would be cool, I'd like to see how these people, like me, are utilizing their gear, what little gear they do have, and such.
As for me being interviewed... I think it's everyone's little dream, to get some recognition, so yeah I do have that little dream, but it's not so much for recognition, I've always liked those career/personal interests surveys they did in school, because when I'm done with them I learn more about myself.
I was thinking of submitting an album to TO for review, at the least, and if that would lead to an interview, well cool. The pretentious me says "hey, I'm only working with a workstation keyboard, a Strat, and a laptop with Logic. I dont' even have any real gear like pre's, mics, mixers etc... there might be some interest in how I am able to work with even that little"...
who knows.

A Larry Crane interview would be killer.
And actually my favorite part of the magazine is Larry's Rant at the end. The last issue's Rant about Depth of Field was one of the most useful articles I've read in a while.
